I have no experience with Iberia plus, but is it the case that it is easier to get tier status with them now BA has reformed their loyalty club?
My untried eye thinks it is, but as I say I’m not very clued up.
Thanks for any wisdom.
It is like the old BA system but there are more differences on the TPs you get: https://www.iberia.com/gb/iberiaplus/earn-elite-points/
You need 2,250 elite points IB oro (BA silver) and 6,250 to be Platino (BA Gold).
A LHR to JFK flight will give you 500 Elite points in J. So with 1 return flight you are 44% into IB oro (remember the IB oro – gold- is BA silver equivalent). So it is not far from the current BA system with the old TPs.
Thank you! So looks good, for now, but then they might change it as well… I guess

Yes it’s a gamble for how long they keep it this way given BA changes. Maybe a while longer as others have mentioned that Avios/Status is not as big in Spain as UK/US etc so they have less to gain if they go the BA route? I can’t really comment on that. But OWE is a slightly steeper jump from OWS here. Does a return QR flight in J get you near OWS like on BA exec?
Thinking of swapping to Iberia as well. I need to book some flights with them anyway.
If I put in my Iberia number ( Clasica ) will it know I’m BA silver so I can book seats etc.
No – you need to have your BA number (or whichever scheme you have status with) on the booking.
I’ve found the only way to do this is to untick the “I’m flying” box, re-input my name, then it lets me select BA as the FF scheme.
Even then, it look a few months for the system to seem to recognise this and start allowing me free seat selection. And I still can’t get it on IB domestic flights!
They cancel and change a lot as well; I think my flirtation with them may well be short-lived …
Thanks for the reply. It means it’s going to be difficult to build up status while still BA silver for another year.
I probably would have made OW sapphire through Iberia but it means giving up the BA silver benefits.
Frustrating!
? You still get your BA benefits when flying on IB.
You might need to call Iberia if you want to urgently select free seats, you should still get them, but you only asked about inputting your IB number.
Iberia will switch to a BA style model (possibly announced tomorrow) but I believe it will be delayed by a year due to the BA cock-up. Let’s see.

Yes, but I wanted to build my status on my Iberia card. Whilst still getting the BA benefits but that’s not possible.

Thanks for the news flash 😊
