Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Iberia – baggage allowance with oneworld status?

  • 11,290 posts

Morning all. I’m trying to decide between avios and cash bookings for some Iberia flights next summer. Cash flights are extremely cheap but it’s not clear what the checked bag allowance is. IB website says you get baggage allowance regardless of *cabin*, but doesn’t break it down by fare.

Does baggage allowance apply to all fare classes in economy?

What is the allowance on award flights?

    TIA amigos!

    From the Iberia website:

    Medium and short-haul flights
Domestic, European, African and Middle East flights

    (3) Iberia Plus Oro and oneworld Sapphire cardholders are allowed an additional item of luggage (23 kg) when their allowance is 0 to 1 bags.

No idea on award flights by which I assume you mean award flights booked via Ibplus? If you book on BA they usually come with baggage allowance so I assume the point 3 above would be in addition.

There is also a baggage calculator on that Web page. Not sure if that helps you

Thanks, @AJA, I have seen that but don’t want to assume it applies to all fare classes. What I’m asking is whether Iberia “basic” fare is the same as BA HBO, so no checked bag allowance for status pax?

I’ve now found this, which says OW Sapphire & Emerald get checked bags on any other OW HBO booking, but it’s from 2018 and I can’t see anything more recent.

I think unless the baggage calculator answers your specific query I’d assume basic equals HBO fare and excludes any baggage allowance for OW starus. That’s how BA does it and I can’t see Iberia being more generous.

@NorthernLass – if you search in Spanish, you will find the answer that, as @AJA says, Iberia Basic is equivalent to BA HBO whereby status still doesn’t give you check-in luggage.

    ¡Gracias!

Well that’s telling me that on MAD-MAN, lowest fare, even IB Clásica gets 1 x 23kg. Which would be pretty awesome for £32!
