Have c. 4k Avios from ancient Groupon purchase but 2 months in which to extend them. Have loads in BA so don’t really want to buy any. Also don’t want to pay anything to transfer them.
Considered:
Buying something via a partner (all need way more Avios that I have)
Crediting a hotel stay to Iberia via Hilton Point + Miles (no longer exists!)
Transfer of points from Hilton (no longer possible as Hilton live chat tell me Iberia no longer a partner)
Transfer of Accor points (viable but not great value)
Can credit a hotel stay if that will help – does an Iberia Avios Charity donation also extend their life?
Why not just transfer them from Iberia to ba?
Why not just transfer them from Iberia to ba?
I asked that once and they told me it doesn’t extend their validity.

transferring them won’t extend validity within Iberia, but once over to ba exec club, I was under the impression they’d remain alive under ba rules. The OP suggests they’ve got lots of Avios in BA exec club therefore doesn’t sound like a risk of expiring in ba. Transferring the 4k into BA and back to Iberia wouldn’t stop expiry, but I don’t see the benefit for keeping ~4k Avios in Iberia? But I may well be wrong on this.
Always good to keep an Iberia account alive. Just in case of serious good offers arising. Transfer 3k to BA and buy a little kids book on IB on line shop or something with a few euros…

My understanding is that if your iberia account expires and you want to transfer BA to IB in the future the Avios will disappear as they hit the IB account!
Therefore if you transfer avios from BA to IB and back to empty the IB account and let it expire empty. You may be in trouble in the future.
If you want IB Avios you can transfer 1,000 from your American Express or maybe give your Iberia plus card when you rent with Avis (amongst other ideas).
As an aside, I received a warning from Iberia yesterday that my Avios were about to expire. I went on to the BA website and transferred all of my Iberia Avios to BA. The link and process worked really easily and the Avios appeared in my BA account instantly. I also had emails from both BA and Iberia confirming the transaction.
I just tried transferring from Iberia to BA but it says I haven’t met the terms and conditions for it… I had used the MR trick too but doesn’t seem to have unlocked the option!
Also no luck via avios.com – any suggestions?
Hi,
One option could be to complete a survey? Iberia have a partnership with Avios For Thoughts which I used recently to put some activity on my IB account and the miles posted very quickly.
Not sure I can post links, but if you search for “iberiaplusmagazine avios for thoughts” they advertise an up to 600 bonus Avios offer at the moment.
The usual caveats about these kind of e-surveys do apply: being told half way through you aren’t eligible, and spammed daily for more surveys. But it served a purpose for me and the bonus offer is a decent amount of Avios if you qualify.

Do points in avios.com expire, presumably they do with aer lingus having a 3 year expiry, but does it also turn into a points blackhole like Iberia does if theres been no activity for 3 years?
I have the same problem as chungcyk. My account has been open for several years and I have a few orphaned points there. However, I can’t transfer them out because “I don’t meet the criteria”. Any suggestions?

. I have to use Aer Club as an intermediary, move from Iberia to Aer club and then onto ba. I keep my Aer club account active with the odd purchase via the Aer club shopping portal. But I’d advise that you do a small test transfer of say 10 Avios to make sure Avios don’t fall into an Aer club black hole.
