Forums Payment cards Other payment cards HSBC World Elite 40k extra points question

  • 66 posts

I am looking to apply for the HSBC World Elite card, I’ve called HSBC a couple of times but on both occasions the agents have been fairly useless. I wondered if anyone knows the answer to the following:

    > Can I combine my Premier points and my HSBC Premier WE card?
    > HSBC say ‘Receive 40,000 reward points when you spend £2,000 on your card in the first 90 days of card membership’. Does anyone know if this is 90 days from when the card is activated or 90 days from when the card is approved?

    Thanks in advance

It’s always from when it’s approved.

Also isn’t it 40k when you spend £2k in 90 days and the extra 40k after you spend £12 in the first 12 months ?

I don’t think I understand the first question at all. What premier points are you referring to? Are you saying you are already earning points on the free card and if you upgrade to the paid version whether it is the same pot?

That’s with Amex. When I took HSBC PWE just before pandemic it was from the date of application. So it was less than 90 days, something like 80 days. So unless things changed…

Yes, it’s 40k in 90 days plus another 40k after £12k spend in 12 months.

@meta in most cases the date of application and approval is the same, if not instant, you’re talking a day apart. (For me it was instant so it started straight away but the card took 5/6 days to arrive with PIN) But take your point application is safer if they don’t give you a clear date.

The main part is it doesn’t matter when you activated the card.

Btw the Amex cards are interesting as the deal is as per the day you applied regardless or when it’s approved.

    Hi – sorry yes

If I have 10,000 Premier Rewards currently (from the free card), when the WE card is approved, are these merged or are both cards kept running?

    Thank again

Many thanks – this was my thinking but I had a chap telling me on Friday from HSBC that it was from when activated the card (which felt unlikely).

You may only have one of the two cards active. Yes, you won’t lose your points.

    (unless they changed these recently)

    Understood – thanks again.

Hi. I have a HSBC premiere account.

A month and an half ago I added the world elite card.

    (1) The information online and then querying the agents was a bit frustrating. Certain things are not really spelled out well in their documents and the agents online just don’t know the answers. One of the questions I had was whether or not the bonus points for signing up is after 90 days has lapsed or when you spent the £2000. Turns out it is if you spend the £2000 in the first 90 days you receive it at the 90 days.

    (2) My points from both of my HSBC credit cards have now combined themselves.

    (3) Their welcome could use a bit of work as it took a week for the card to arrive (they cut corners by using Royal Mail rather than one day delivery) and the free global internet access which they put in their welcome package materials has been discontinued.

This is the first time I am paying an annual fee for a credit card. I am doing it so that I can get miles for Emirates. I am not convinced after two years the benefits outweigh the costs of paying the £200 a year as besides lounge access there are not that many perks.
