Looks like the end of days as far as using the bendy one to pay off other cards onto HSBC.
It was good while it lasted.Yup, just got the email too!
Me three. I wasn’t using for that but rather Ernie. Quite a while to my renewal so will see
Anyone been hit with the 3pc fee as yet? At least if using bendy you could go back in time and move it to a debit card I assume?Looks like the end of days as far as using the bendy one to pay off other cards onto HSBC.

We’re getting in touch as you’ve previously used your credit card to make what we describe as ‘cash related payments’. We’re explaining what they are, and how we treat them.
What are cash related payments?
These are payments you make to get cash, or something representing or easily converted to cash.Buying travellers’ cheques, foreign currency or money orders are classed as cash related payments. They can also include things like using a specialist service to send a money transfer or trade stocks or other securities.
What charges apply to them?
As set out in our credit card terms and conditions:There’s a fee of 2.99% (minimum £3) added to the account with the transaction.
We’ll charge interest at the standard rate applicable to cash or cash related payments, from the date of the transaction until it’s repaid in full.
Why are we getting in touch?
Up until now, we haven’t applied these charges for some types of cash related payment. This means you may have made these payments before without being charged a fee, or with a lower rate of interest.Yep, just read my email too. Mine were limited to my euro cash withdrawals via bendy. And of course feeding the seagulls with bendy also. Shame. Hadn’t managed to get round to using it for other feeds.
But, it’s the new points portal that has tightened all this up, am afraid… as you say, good innings. Only had metal for 1 year sadly. So missed out on a lot!I’m pleased to have received the unexpected 40k bonus others reported yesterday in lieu of the email; good to see them sorting the sheep from the goats.
I have neither the points nor the email.
This is bringing back traumatic memories of picking teams at school.

I’m sure they’ll be swiftly removed once Mr X calls HSBC and tips them off to their error. 😂
Did you guys hit the spending targets (cannot remember what it was) or it was just an automatic 40,000? I also have had the WE for years so if there is a way to get this free bonus I would like to try it.
On the statement, it says “Initial signup bonus”. I wonder if the platform assumed “everyone signed up” when the new platform went online in July, and give 40k points after £2000 spend in 90 days.
That is a good hint… I do not normally put that much through but could easily switch my spending this month to try to hit it £2k.
With regards to the portal, just to be clear, I had problems for months before the announcement of the changes, trying to click on the points link within my online banking, where previously you then accessed the option to transfer points to BA etc.. I have finally managed to click on it and an HSBC pages open as it did before (which I guess it is not the new portal); only when I then click on some of the promotions shown on this page, I am redirected to a MasterCard page. So is this last bit the new portal? If so, do I need to register?
Thanks
Interesting. I did get 40k points. But too early for it to be my renewal. Maybe this was the ‘extra’ ones?

not quite. I got both. The points posted last month

Well done; it does seem very fashionable to be a bit fluid these days.
Has anyone had any joy finding out which MCCs are now exempt from rewards and are treated as cash advances? This isn’t information HSBC is freeing up, even though they would have somebody who codes them into the rewards logic!
+1 for 40k and email.

Ok so does anyone know yet if this fee applies to ernie via bendy? I will do a test in due course but it won’t be for a while yet as I do them near the end of the month.
When does the email state the change will be from?
Ta,
When does the email state the change will be from?
Ta,
It implies immediately as says “in future” but doesn’t specify a date:
“Up until now, we haven’t applied these charges for some types of cash related payment. This means you may have made these payments before without being charged a fee, or with a lower rate of interest.
In future, if you use your card for cash related payments, the above charges will apply. We’re letting you know so you can check the fee and interest rate that apply before using your card in this way.”
None of my recent transaction are showing as having earned points, whether via curve or not. 🙁
All our curve spends are showing points up to now. Am trying to downgrade to free curve now, but no replies, response, nada…
I’m pleased to have received the unexpected 40k bonus others reported yesterday in lieu of the email; good to see them sorting the sheep from the goats.
You haven’t contacted them to notify them of their mistake? Surely Immoral to keep points you haven’t earned via genuine spend / genuine promotion.

It’s a promotion, albeit an unexpected one, not a mistake.
No email, no 40k points here. But also haven’t put a lot of spend on this card recently.

Do you have details of the promotion? Email? T&C’s etc? I’d love to get myself signed up as would many others

Where can I read about the promotion? Want to make sure I get the points too!

Same here
I don’t think it’s been a promotion – if you read back it looks like the 40k you usually only get once with qualifying first yearly spend has triggered again since they’ve switched reward platforms.
HSBC’s IT is notorious for being unpredictable and in some cases still requiring paper submission. My WE card took over 6 months to be set up correctly…
