I made a Miles & More booking of almost 300,000 miles + almost £900 for two passengers. I cancelled the booking over the phone with Miles & More, but despite promising to refund the miles and money to me, they failed to do so. Miles & More made similar promises in subsequent phone calls but repeatedly failed to refund anything.
I therefore made a Section 75 claim to my credit card issuer. One of the little-known benefits of Section 75 is that one can claim not only the amount that was paid on the credit card, but the total amount of the purchase that was paid by other means, as long as the total is between £100 and £30k. My credit card issuer has found in my favour in respect of my Section 75 claim, refunding the money, but has not taken any action regarding the miles because I have not quantified the loss.
In my view, the loss would ideally be calculated by comparing the redemption fare compared to a cash fare, as opposed to any nominal value of the miles, but I’m open to other ideas.
Therefore how can I plausibly evidence the value of almost 300,000 Miles & More miles?
As Lufty doesn’t sell miles directly there is no easy answer. You can try one of the new ‘bundles’ and deduct a little bit to cover the value of the other things in the bundle.

Thanks to you, I used the bundles valuation method to quantify the loss, which prompted American Express to twist Lufthansa’s arm into refunding my miles in addition to the money. The length of time the process took extended the validity of the refunded miles more than if Lufthansa had correctly refunded the miles immediately.
