We’re staying in the Sofitel the night before we fly out … we’re old and want to minimise stress
Looking at the Soifitel evening meal and breakfast options, we’re not very impressed 🙁
So wondering if we can checkout from the hotel, walk over to T5, go through security and have a decent breakfast in the Club World lounge?
For that matter, are there any decent food options for the evening ?
You can certainly leave the Sofitel, clear security and have breakfast in the BA lounge. But if you would like a decent breakfast, you have a better chance of achieving this at the Sofitel.
We have kids so they got to eat free at the Sofitel but on Saturday, I paid £54 to avoid having breakfast in the BA lounge. I have to admit I have had many better breakfasts than that provided by the Sofitel and the sausages were indeed weird. But you get freshly cooked eggs and simply it is better.
As for dinner the night before, I have never eaten in the Sofitel’s fancy restaurant (as I have kids) but it is fairly well regarded. Vivre is tolerable.
You can check in for Club at any time, not restricted to three hours before as I believe Economy is. As far as I know there are no time restrictions on the BA lounges, if it’s open and you have access you can go in.
Can’t help with evening options I’m afraid.
You will not get access airside the night before.
Whether the club lounge breakfast is ‘decent’ is a matter for debate but there will be the usual buffet for hot and contineltal style breakfast. The lounge opens around 5.30 but TBH unless you have a very early flight I’d trade sleep over getting there that early.
There are some landside places to eat in T5 but I’ve not used them but the LHR T5 map lists them and their opening hours.
M&S is open late if you fancy a ‘picky tea’!
I’ve done Plane Food once and was impressed, vastly better than lounge or Sofitel.
Wagamama is also open for breakfast airside T5 and probably not terrible.
I’ve eaten at “breakfast” at Giraffe at 4:30am. Followed by more Pretzels and Coffee the other end!
Definitely “picky tea” from M & S if you can’t be bothered going out for dinner! We usually do this with a couple of their mini bottles of wine.
We had breakfast at the Sofitel last summer and it was very good, even with the family in pyjamas at the next table, lol. It was comped because of issues with our room, otherwise we’re happy enough with the bacon rolls in Galleries (there’s nothing called “Club World lounge” just in case you’re looking for a sign locating it!)
Depending on your departure time, you’ll be fed an appropriate meal not too long after take off, so might not want to eat too much beforehand. Not that the on board food is spectacular, but as another reader posted yesterday, it kills time in the air!
Many thanks for all the responses
First time on BA Club World, so wanting to make the most of it … spending some of our pension money while we can travel 👍
You may well be departing from a B or C gate (if you google your flight number, it will show today and yesterday’s gate no.), if flying long haul. There’s a (usually) better BA business lounge in the B concourse, but keep this to yourself, lol, and enjoy your trip!
Enjoy the flight 🙂 you can pass security and into the lounge at any time on the day of departure, I would rush from the hotel as galleries can be very packed/no place to sit at times but leave some time to visit.
But suspect if Sofitel breakfast doesn’t sound any good then the lounge won’t be any good at all as there’s no fresh eggs etc BUT if it’s more the over inflated prices for a hotel breakfast that doesn’t look too go then I’d say the lounge selection will be perfectly serviceable. Pastry, coffee and a bacon roll or two with a glass of champagne 😉
As pointed out of you’re flying long haul the T5B might be better/less busy but seems the “secret” has got out
