Forums Payment cards American Express How long before I ding my credit file again with another application?

  • 977 posts

Recently applied for an Amex ICC card, credit file took wee bump with a hard search a couple of months ago (no affect to score).

I’m after getting the Amex Platinum charge card – I am trying to gauge how long I should wait before applying for this, because I don’t want to appear desperate – I’m simply just revising my credit card products

Also, on the ‘other personal income’ section, can I put partner’s income, or are they looking specifically for my own personal income?

    Thanks in advance

No need to wait any particular period of time unless you intend, e.g. applying for a mortgage in the next few months where too many credit applications could be considered a negative.

On your second question, personal is just that – personal, rather than household.

This is old information you can get credit cards and still apply for a mortgage easily
Discuss it when you have the 1-2-1 session and it will get justified

I dont even earn much, have 4 credit cards all with about 5k at 0%. Applied for Platinum no problem, 2 days later applied and got a Santander for a BT and approved with that. Moral of the story is credit score worry is neither here nor there.

As others have written, credit score is meaningless as each lender calculates eligibility differently based on your current credit status and history.

Frequent request for credit might actually make you eligible for Virgin Money and Barclaycards!

Interesting, i have a good few credit cards and after closing my barclaycard about 5 years or so they would never show up when i done soft searches for credit cards, i got accepted for 3.6k recently for BC avios but was showing as 0% chance of getting it it via the soft search (my other limits are 5/6x the credit limit i got, but glad to be back with them.

Is there any reason for their tactics?
