Forums Other Destination advice Hotels in Cape Town

Hi all, apologies first if I’ve irritated anyone for starting another topic with regards to my holidays to South Africa in November. I like to plan as best I can to maximise my enjoyment and really do appreciate advice from here. I will reply on the other thread when I have come up with some sort of plan for the safari, and other things.

I have a question here which i feel does warrant its own thread which is basically, what hotel do you recommend in Cape Town?
I’m thinking of doing 3 nights in total in Cape Town after hiring a car and driving the garden route for around a week.
We like fairly decent hotels but I can’t really justify the price of the cape grace and one&only Cape Town.
I have literally in the last few days acquired the Amex platinum and have just gone on Amex travel and seen the mount nelson a Belmond hotel, and the twelve apostles spa. I’m leaning towards the mount nelson, but this is just from a quick look.

Open to any suggestions. Thankyou once again

    Rich

We very much enjoyed Mount Nelson, less so Cape Grace.

The 12 Apostles is in a better location than Mount Nelson, and overall better but need to make sure you get a refurbished room. Villa Lion View in Constantia is a totally different type of hotel, but just as comfortable, bigger rooms, modern decor, beautiful location/view etc. for a fraction of the price. Constantia is a great place to be for easy access to everywhere and lots of good restaurants. You’ll have lots of rand left over to go the nearby Chef’s Warehouse. I really wouldn’t stay on the Waterfront, now just a touristy shopping centre by the sea with expensive tourist restaurants.

We stayed in Camps Bay, a smarter are but a bit out of town. Agree that the Waterfront is nothing more than a tourist trap.

Yes Camps bay lovely but more residential, lots of good Airbnb options. Waterfront is touristy yes but we are tourists after all and I liked the vibe for a couple of nights

Can I assume Cape Town is not good during late July / early August?

+1 for the Mount Nelson, gorgeous old luxurious hotel. Afternoon tea is highly recommended.
