Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton Sydney – breakfast now in line with policy :-(

Apologies if this has been covered already….

I’m at the Hilton Sydney just now and the breakfast policy for Diamonds has been updated to come in line with the official policy. I was last here in December, so not sure exactly when it changed.

Up until now, Diamonds always had access to ‘full buffet’ in the Glass restaurant. On this trip, each morning I am reminded that I only have access to continental breakfast and a full buffet will be AUD$10 extra. It is quite a large and good quality hot & cold buffet. Despite being on a work trip and can therefore expense it, I’ve not opted for the full buffet yet, which my waistline thanks me for I’m sure.

The lounge still has breakfast but I find that quite a small selection for breakfast (both continental and hot options).

That’s a new one to me too. I was late last year and breakfast in Glass was still included; that said, Australian properties have always been a bit tight with breakfast – Surfers Paradise charges a supplement, South Wharf used to (no longer a Hilton).

Darwin, Perth Parmelia and Melbourne LQS offer “proper” breakfast still, although ime Perth will try and coax you into using the lounge if eligible, but they’ve backed down on me and let me have the real breakfast when I have stayed.

Having just returned from Sydney, it’s one of those places I would rather have breakfast outdoors with a view over any hotel dining room even if included. There are just so many places, all with great coffee.

That was the policy for Gold in mid-December. We were also lucky enough to be given Lounge access, for which we were very grateful after our very early arrival from a long Trans-Pacific flight, and chose to have breakfast there except for one morning. The quieter atmosphere and views of the harbour in the lounge suited our jet-lagged state better.

Some prefer to eat breakfast leisurely in the hotel, but I guess we are all different.
