Hi All
Need to stay in Central London for 2 nights in a couple of weeks
With one event in central London (soho area) on the Friday night, and a second in Canary Wharf on the Saturday night
Looking for a hotel recommendation for anywhere around/between those areas, ones that looked promising and decent value were
Hilton London Canary Wharf
DoubleTree by Hilton London – West End
Hilton London Tower Bridge
Lost Property St Paul’s London – Curio Collection by Hilton
Hilton London Bankside
Have gold status with Hilton as well
The Gantry at Stratford is another option for you.
The best value I’ve found recently was the DT West End, I think it was around £150 in January and for that price in London, extremely good value. The rooms are a decent size as well, though we were a category up from the base room. The Lost Property is more boutique-type but it seems to have gone up quite a bit since it opened and is also obviously in a different location so that might be a deciding factor.
I find London hotels a bit rubbish for recognising HH status compared with the regions!
Price wise these go from £141 per night for Canary Wharf , to £192 for Bankside , the others come in around £150-£180 region
Tbh a decent quality breakfast + possible upgrade would be the main factors
The recent review on the main page for Hilton Bankside made me consider it, however not sure its worth an extra £100 for the 2 nights even with the pool
Last (and will be only) time I was in DT West End I thought it was a dump. It was a cheap dump that night though :D.
For near Soho if Trafalgar St James is in budget I’d stay there.
The Waldorf sometimes gets a bad rap but it’s had some money spent on it and I think is now pretty decent. I think the name confuses people and leads to unmet expectations; it’s a Hilton not a W/A and if you remember that it’s pretty good.

Canary Wharf sounds like your best option then for convenience and price?
Have stayed at both C WHarf and Bankside in the last couple of months.
I do understand the price difference, but there definitely is that much
difference between the 2 hotels. CW was actually pretty decent, but I
found the location pretty rubbish: the whole “7 minutes from…” which turns
out to be 15, and NO signposting, to which reception said “I know, right?!”.
Fwiw on the last 3 occasions at Bankside, as there have been no room upgrades,
I was given lounge access instead as Gold. Bankside also lovely for strolling around.

Hilton Canary Wharf was one of the larger buildings in its immediate area when it first opened. Now with the sprawl and continuing development of towers, particularly the razing of the plot across the road, it’s one of the smallest.
IMO the disjointed interchange between lines at Canary Wharf is a real problem, total lack of planning and foresight.
Exec lounge at CW is nice, much better than Bankside, but those prices look very cheap, are you sure?
DT Tower of London is often well priced and is beside the Tube, also has a small Exec lounge.
Apologies for highjacking this tread but your situation mirrors mine within reason. I will be flying into LCY and looking to stay for a Friday and Saturday night to attend a wedding in South London nearby.
I too am looking at Bankside or Canary Wharf on points (80k pn Bank or 70 CW). Either is pretty easy to get to from LCY and to/from the Venue so I am undecided. Landing 2pm Friday and flying out 2pm Sunday – the function is saturday. The pool is on no relevance , flying HBO and whilst Diamond HH today I will have dropped to Gold by July when I am looking to book.
Bankside is currently getting extended I understand – scaffolding and such like but that is not a major issue. Been to BS before and had a good experience, not stayed at CW.
Any thoughts?

Yes, following peoples suggestions went with CW, paid £282 for 2 nights- Friday to Sunday

I have to agree to an extent. I suppose it depends which room they give you. I stayed there in January (stranded in London due to train disruption so booked the cheapest possible room). I’m a Diamond member, and they upgraded me to a Queen Deluxe. I wasn’t exactly blown away by my experience (or the water pressure in the shower for that matter). I reviewed the stay on my blog for anyone who’s interested: Review: DoubleTree by Hilton London West End
