Has anyone stayed here recently? It’s undergoing a major refurbishment ahead of the upcoming re-branding in May.
I believe it’s had a bad rep in the past but am hoping it’s improved dramatically in recent months.
Big improvement on what it used to be – dust filled, clapped-out, 1980s rooms. I avoided it. Now it’s much better following the refurbishment, which is ongoing (working top down to the bottom). Honours benefits recognised. I usually get upgraded, usually a voucher (per registered guest) for the bar etc. It can still be a bit if a zoo at times. It hosts various function rooms, so can be busy during the week. Similarly, it’s not immune to stag and hen groups at the weekend. Never really an issue but sometimes a bit rowdy at the bar. Breakfast, on a weekend, can get a little crowded.
The rooms are not uniform. They vary in size and layout. Even the refurbished rooms on the upper floors, at the front of the hotel (maybe due to the sea air) are showing a bit of wear.
No longer avoid the hotel.
As well as the refurb they are also building a whole new hotel around the back where the Metropols conference centre used to be so it could be noisy during the day,
Although it’s owned by the same people as the metropol it’s being branded as a Maldron
Thanks both, think I’ll give it a try and hope that we won’t be disturbed too much by the ongoing work. A bed for the night along with a decent breakfast is the main priority and the £50 off £200 Amex offer makes it a very legit option for an upcoming night in Brighton.
That crappy hotel can really be pleasant if you are lucky. We’ve once got a high ceiling suite with a direct view of the Channel. The breakfast wasn’t a complete zoo… My kid was behaving…
I had a HUGE suite here once BUT the room contained exactly the same furniture as a normal room! There were bits of furniture against all of the walls and this huge empty space in the middle ….
Stayed here over the weekend ahead of the DoubleTree re-brand which should be in place from tomorrow. Definitely a decent option for a short break in Brighton.
Got upgraded to a sea view balcony room as a gold member which was a really good size for a family of 3. Access to the swimming pool/spa just required calling ahead to ensure availability which is acceptable in this age where some locations are starting to charge extra. Weekend breakfast queue also wasn’t an issue as we were always going to be there well ahead of the crowds.
