Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton blocking out guest rooms for short stays

  • 5 posts

    Hi all,

Has anyone else had this happen to them before? Am trying to book Hilton Helsinki Strand from 11-13 August and note that the only paid rooms available are an exec room and suites, but if I expand the filtering to 11-15 august the cheaper guest rooms are now available.

Is it normal for Hilton to block out guest rooms for shorter duration stays?

Also, almost certain this isn’t a weekend only thing because on trying 4-6 August (the weekend prior) I am able to book guest rooms in addition to the exec room and suites.

This was the case for Hilton Quebec last year, points rooms were available for some 1 night stays but not all, whereas a 2-3 night stay over the missing dates was available. Don’t know if that’s a Hilton thing or more likely a hotel by hotel decision.

It’s been like this with Hilton for years and they’re very clear on it that rates and room availability depend on both check in and check out days.

I had a fun time in Vegas a couple of years ago wanting to stay at one of the properties there and had to switch hotels because I couldnt get the checkout day for friday that I wanted by checking in wed, but if I checked in the tuesday or thursday I could get the Friday.

For interest, I have also noticed this at IHG with popular European city hotels. They will only be available for a 3-night stay but not a 2-night

Very common and used for lots of reasons e.g. managing check in / out days to avoid a day having too many of either (causes a problem in housekeeping) or to stop short stays taking up rooms that prevent someone booking a longer stay. Most commonly you’d see it as not allowing a 1 night stay on a Saturday. New year’s eve another common one. Also helps prevent “party rooms” depending on location if this is a problem or not!

Yes I see this happening on Saturday night bookings where a min of 2 nights is needed cash or points

Yes and they often price the same room differently per night depending on how long the stay is.

@Lady London – I’m seeing this looking at the Hampton at High Wycombe, if we go for 3 nights each night is a given price but if I remove the 3rd night the other 2 nights go up in price for each of those nights.

There are sometimes offers on for stays of 3 nights or more which might be affecting pricing.
