  • 5 posts

just returned from a nice week in madeira and wanted to book some flights for next november but they are showing as no flights available.
does anyone know if they ditched madeira from their winter schedule for 2024/25?

Maybe they haven’t decided yet whether to continue flights from Heathrow or go back to Gatwick. They used to fly there from Gatwick but (since the pandemic I think) they moved to Heathrow.

It’s the same with flights to Porto, at the moment there’s nothing showing past October unless you want the scenic route via Madrid.Perhaps they are hoping to buy TAP by then?

There aren’t any Gatwick flights on sale yet for winter so that explains Porto – they appeared early Jan this year for winter

I suspect @E is right and they’re shifting the flight to Gatwick for W24/25 so they’d appear at the same time but have to wait and see!

As regular OPO fliers, the move to LGW has actually been quite good (for now) for us. Nice flight times both ways, and the quieter BA lounge at LGW (appreciate this will change come the summer).

Given most travellers on the LHR route in the summer were transitting from the USA and PT is still a massively popular place for those from the US, not sure how this will be dealt with in future. Guess BA is relying on its Lisboa routings. Otherwise they’re losing out to other carriers (direct flights from the USA to PT are super pricey compared to other European countries).

I think they may decide on routing for after the change in winter schedule. We got caught out with flights : inv/lhr/ fnc Outbound all in a day, but our stay was over the weekend of the clock changes and winter schedule change, so our inbound flight was affected that meant an overnight stay in London as we couldn’t connect once landed in London. This was all booked way back, so scuppering many passengers plans which may have a bearing on BAs planning for next year . Who knows!

They are now available LGW to FNC but with a substantial price hike. £1900 return for club Nov 24 you could fly to the US for less

Standard. Wait a week for the cheaper fare buckets to be loaded

Cheaper flights to Madeira from LGW now loaded for November/early December. Very agreeable flight times too. Quite tempting

I think there’s been a lot of shuffling on these routes. My OPO flight next September has been moved from 16:05 to 08:30 with a different flight number – not an issue as it actually gives us an extra day at the destination but it’s a big change!

That is a big change! We are just headed to AGP from LGW with various family members coming and going at different times and the flights have been cancelled and moved all over the shop over the past few months.
