As per the title, I applied this evening for a BAPP card, through a cash back site, and got 25,000 avios with a £3k spend in the first 3 months. Also should get a £45 kickback from the cash back site.
Minutes later, I got an email from BA offering 40,000 avios, for the same £3k/3 month spend.
Am I unlucky, and have missed out on those 15000 extra points, or do you have any suggested tactics I can employ with Customer Services to get the same deal? Thanks.
Thought as much. If I cancel in the cooling off period, and reapply, I assume I’ll not trigger the bonus, as they’ll think I’ve held a BA card previously?
Yes, very likely you’re stuffed for want of a better word. Best bank what you’ve got and not risk anything. If the 40k is open to all then there is a slim chance it might trigger that anyway if it went live before you applied. I suggest you screenshot the 40k offer, keep the email and tell chat/CS you were expecting 40k if you only get 25k. They can see exactly what offer you applied for but might take pity on you in the circumstances. Not that long ago they were throwing tens of thousands of MR points at every HfP reader with a brass neck who called them so don’t feel bad about it 🙂 What happened to you hurts but is not uncommon, just have a look at the “amazing…” article on the front page…
Not sure why you went with a CB site rather than getting a referral that HfP team or many here would have been happy to provide privately – has been 16k/34k for a while.
I tried that with Amex before about BA’s 40k avios offer. Amex CS told me to ring BA and speak to them as the offer has nothing to do with them.

Didn’t realise that was an option, or I’d have taken that route. Lesson learned

I’ll try this.

😢
+1 @JFB, it has become something of a tradition that uf we have no family or friends to benefit from referring us we revert to HfP ‘to pay our dues’ 🙂

That’s good to know. I apologise for my ignorance.
No worries, I doubt Rob is short of avios 😀 As JDB points out though it works both ways as the referral bonus usually outweighs the CBamount.
By way of an update, I called Amex, explained exactly what happened and could I be switched to the 40000 avios offer.
Essentially no. Although I could cancel within cooling off period, Amex systems block reapplying for the same card within 90 days (so the 40000 offer would have expired).
They wouldn’t match, but when I politely requested a good will gesture, they added 2,500 avios to my account.
Ah well. Lesson learned.
