Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Good value family Hiltons – UK

We’re saving for our next trip to NZ, so the next few holidays might need to be staycations. Also keen to build up (or possibly use) Hilton points.

We did St George’s Park already this year and enjoyed it. What other UK Hilton’s have people had good family experiences at? Kids are 7 and 10, and a decent pool is a must. Trying to avoid London.

    Recommendations welcome!

Harrogate and Chester are both nice, but both charge for the pools (unless they’ve reversed this!)

Cadbury House Double Tree between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare is a nice hotel, with excellent leisure facilities and a Marco Pierre White restaurant.

    +1 for Harrogate and Chester.

We were at Harrogate Doubletree last Easter and not charged for the pool.
But Chester has a better pool and spa imho.

No charge for pool, had a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna as well for adults

If we narrow it down to suggestions with a pool only with something else for families then I can think of….

Doubletree Cadbury (“Bristol South – don’t be fooled it’s not that near Bristol!”) has a nice pool and the likes of Weston, Puxton Park, Cheddar, Noah’s Ark and Wookey Hole as well as Bristol’s docks and history will keep them entertained no problem.
Hilton Cardiff is right in the centre so some good stuff to do round there like the castle, bay, museums etc.
Hilton Puckrup Hall – if they don’t play golf then book some beginner’s lessons.
Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Deeply unexciting hotel but pool charging scandal is over AND you can time it with something family friendly or of interest at the NEC.
Doubletree Harrogate is pretty impressive for a Doubletree; did a pretty good job of renovating the clapped out Majestic, although like all old buildings, rooms can be a bit pot luck. a short walk to Betty’s for overpriced cake; and Ripley Castle, Stump Cross Cacverns, Royal Armouries, Brimham Rocks Forbidden Corner, National Childrens Museum, National Science and Media Museum (when it reopens) and a million other things, all brilliant (‘cos it’s Yorkshire) might be of interest.
Doubltree Stoke – only 30 mins to Alton Towers obvs!
And the final curveball: The Caledonian may no longer be a Waldorf/Astoria and no idea how refurb works are affecting things but you can’t argue it Is A Hilton (OK Curio), does have a pool (albeit it’s nowhere near as good as the Sheraton nearby) and is in an amazing city with loads for your family to see and do.

For value and a good pool, I’d recommend the Doubletree by Hilton Strathclyde.

This can be booked fairly cheaply for a family room most days and will give you good access to Glasgow and/or Edinburgh.

If Gold/Diamond, you’ll receive breakfast (if selected as a My Way benefit with Gold) and drinks vouchers too.

Otherwise, Doubletree by Hilton Chester and Hilton Newcastle Gateshead tend to be good value to room/amenity ratio.

This is solely my personal opinion however.

Thanks all, some good suggestions there, and ones I hadn’t considered before.

    +1 for Puckrup Hall.
Free basic driving range (apart from the actual golf course), and near
to some gorgeous places for short trips.
    Breakfast is also pretty decent.

Second Strathclyde (on an industrial estate but terrific value for money), and also the DT NCL – very generous with drink vouchers for golds, very decent restaurant on site, lovely friendly staff and convenient for Northumberland which is a wonderful part of the country.

Haven’t stayed for a while but Bankside in London has a nice pool, my daughter always enjoys it. Plus nice rooms and lounge.
