Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Good UK, but non-London redemptions

  • 54 posts

After a rash of travel this year to use up our various vouchers before they expire, we’re having a “mostly UK” year this year.

Does anyone have any ideas for UK redemptions similar to The Langley, but non-London?

Not in the UK, but there’s a lovely Westin in Dublin. Couple of Autograph and Luxury properties elsewhere on the Emerald Isle too (can’t vouch for them personally). You could drive/train & ferry if you’re really sick of hanging around in airports.

Not a country house type place, but The Glasshouse in Edinburgh looks rather nice, and of course it’s a gorgeous place to visit. If you drive there it’s very easy to get out of the city and into the countryside.

Marriott doesn’t really have any comparable properties to The Langley in the UK. Their other ‘country retreat’ properties are under the Delta brand – but are a step down in terms of luxury and some of them are a bit tired. If you are happy with city hotels that aren’t London, then the usual suspects are Sheraton Grand Edinburgh, Glasshouse Edinburgh and University Arms Cambridge.

I’d agree there isn’t much in the UK (with Marriott). The only “country house” hotels I can think of are Hanbury Manor in Hertfordshire (Marriott) and Breadsall Priory in Derbyshire (Delta).
I’d also agree that Ireland has some good choices. The Westin is fine (I believe Bill Clinton has stayed there in the past), but for Dublin I’d prefer the Shelbourne. The best out-of-town options are the Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny and the Powerscourt Estate in Wicklow. I’ve not stayed at either myself, but I have heard good things about both of them.
