Forums Payment cards American Express Gold and Platinum log ins – do you share one MR account?

Hi, I currently have a Gold and my first ever Platinum is on the way. Would these accounts be linked as they are with the same name? Or do I have to set them up with a brand new email? username? new logins etc.

Indeed you are much better to use the same login. It is unlikely you will have both a platinum and gold in the long run so by having them on the same account you would have one pool of membership rewards points and this would stop you having any issues with your rewards points expiring should you close one card.

Although from my personal experience (and that of my wife, brother, father, mother and a couple of friends) the MR accounts are not automatically linked/pooled. To do that, you have to contact AMEX.

Also (I could be wrong about this, please correct me), but I remember someone saying that linked accounts can only earn a max 90k referral in a year total, while unlinked accounts can earn 90k per card (I’ve experienced the latter, never tried the former)

Correct, if you run separate MR accounts then you can get a second 90k referral limit. If this isn’t a concern for you, you’ll have an easier life linking them on the same account, especially for online servicing.
