Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Other hotel schemes GHA (non) qualifying stay at Capella

Recently stayed at Sydney Capella on a members rate, pay at the hotel. When I checked out I redeemed a number of D$ and settled the remainder of the bill but I’m now told that it was a non eligible stay towards retention of Titanium status.

Back and forth with GHA but not getting anywhere, is this because of the D$ redemption?

Sorry about the delay in responding, but as I just checked out at The Bristol (I was using the Discovery Exclusive Offer rate), I was thinking about your question and reading the program’s terms and conditions. In order to get an “Eligible Night,” you need to pay the “Eligible Rate,” which is the list of eligible rates at any given time. You can consult through GHA DISCOVERY Customer Care to check if your particular rate is eligible.

According to the terms and conditions: “Ineligible Rates” shall include, without limitation: (1) third-party online retailer rates, such as Expedia.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Orbitz.com, Priceline, Travelocity.com, etc. (“OTAs”) (2) tours series rates and charter rates (3) room rates for airline staff and crew where rooms are pre-booked and paid for by the airline or directly; (4) travel-industry staff rates; (5) other discounted rates; (6) any complimentary, free, traded or bartered night stays, or any stays in connection with gift certificates or other awards or vouchers.

In theory, a Discovery Exclusive Offer or, indeed, your member rate could be regarded as “other discounted rates” Just out of interest, did you get any D$ from that particular stay? I was just thinking you may not have any since taxes, tips, and fees could zero out Eligible Spend if you redeem high enough D$.

Just throwing out some thoughts here. 🙂

I had this with a hotel Cafe Royal booking and had the same with GHA and computer says no nonsense so contacted the hotel to sort which they eventually did

I redeemed points at The Bloomsbury which was fine and qualified so shouldn’t be an issue

Not sure why the post I just did went missing. 🙁 Maybe I clicked on the wrong option.

I was checking out of The Bristol and was thinking about your question as I was on Discovery’s Exclusive Offer. I have read the terms and conditions for the Discovery program.

To receive an Eligible Stay, you need to pay an Eligible Rate, which you can consult with Customer Care about since they got the list. There is rather a long list for “Ineligible Rate” which is written as follows:

“Ineligible Rates” shall include, without limitation: (1) third party online retailer rates, such as Expedia.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Orbitz.com, Priceline, Travelocity.com, etc.

It is quite possible that the members’ rate (and indeed the Exclusive Offer I was using) is regarded as “other discounted rates”, so therefore, they cannot be eligible. I would not be surprised if I am wrong though. Will wait to see if D$ get posted on my accounts in the few days.

Just to follow up, comms with GHA didn’t prove very successful so after an email to the hotel who confirmed that the stay was eligible I have received the status credit and D$ for the balance paid.

Retaining Titanium was the point for me, it has proven to be really lucrative and easy to achieve with the 3 brand target.

That’s good to know! Especially you can get a complimentary breakfast in select brands with the status.

As per my experience best to cut GHA out and just speak to the property directly.
