Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Other hotel schemes GHA Discovery – is redeeming dollars easy on hotel rooms?

  • 57 posts

    Good evening,

I have a small amount of Discovery Dollars worth £200.
I am planning to redeem them on nHow London. The room in non cancellable and it is not a hotel I would normally stay at if it wasn’t for points redemption.
Is it as simple as booking a room and then paying at check out with Discovery Dollars or are there any additional considerations I need to be aware of?

I was initially planning to redeem the dollar on a spa hotel but o was told this needs to be booked as part of hotel stay.

Any first hand experience would be much appreciated.

P.s. I have looked at a number of guides online before posting here.

You will asked at check-out if you wish to redeem your D$. If yes, they are knocked off at that point.

However, if the room is pre-paid then you can’t use your D$ unless it is against qualifying extra spend (eg food and drink) – and you should double-check that even this is allowed in the T&C as I’ve never tried this personally.

    Thank you Rob,

Only planning to use the D$ for room redemption. I’ll make sure the room in not pre-paid.

    Otherwise it sound straightforward.

For info, I contacted a hotel to ask this sort of question and was told the same and to mention it on check in to avoid any confusion, the D$ can be applied at check out.

I’ve redeemed D$ against F&B on a prepaid rate booked via GHA.

Be worth checking the hotel actually accepts them. I booked the Kempinski St Moritz to use mine up and upon checking out they told me their systems didn’t actually allow them to accept Discovery $. After much back and forth with customer services they did finally agree to accept them via a manual process but it was very frustrating.
