Forums Other Destination advice Gdańsk hotel recommendations

  • 125 posts

I’m looking at Gdańsk for a trip later in the year and was looking for hotel recommendations in the centre. I am Hilton diamond and IHG plat, but I’m not necessarily looking for an ‘international’ hotel. Something a bit upmarket with a nice bar would suit.
Any other advice on Gdańsk would also be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

We stayed at qubus hotel which may not be quite the luxury you”re looking for, but you don’t have loads of options. It’s not a massive chain, but we had a nice view of the river and used the complimentary water taxi. It had a sauna and the bar was nice where you could sit inside or outside by the river.

Just a quick thought, I don’t know how long you have in total but have you looked at visiting Sopot. We spent the day there before getting the short train journey back, and there’s a few options for hotels such as Sheraton, sofitel etc

Gdansk is one of my favourite places to be and I’m planning to spend some more time there again this summer. It doesn’t really matter where you stay – you’ll get an excellent welcome and most hotels are very central. Out of Hilton and IHG, I have only previously stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Old Town, which was very good and I would happily stay at again. The Hilton Gdansk (which I have visited, but not stayed at) has a great location and the rooftop bar has lovely views. The swimming pool is also on the same level. Although I haven’t stayed there (IHG lost our business a good few years ago), the City Centre Holiday Inn has a great location and is well reviewed. As Hilton Diamond, I’d expect you to get better benefits with them than IHG, but if the HI rates were better that could swing your decision. Either way, you’re in a great city with friendly people.

As far as things to do in the town, there are plenty of museums to investigate and I highly recommend a tour of the Gdański Teatr Szekspirowski – not many modern theatres in the world are as interesting as this one. If you’re into Football Stadiums it could also be worth checking out the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, home of Lechia Gdańsk.

Hi, there are no true 5 star hotels in Gdańsk (I visit it almost every year). Two best options are Radisson Blue and Hilton. Radisson has a nice terrace overlooking the Main Street (Dlugi Targ), Hilton has a great roof top but it is 10 min walk to the Main Street. Saying that, it has great views of the old town. If you are looking for true luxury, check out Sofitel Grand in Sopot (15mins taxi ride from Gdańsk)

Thanks for this @Stankpa. Are there any other hotels I should be looking at in Gdańsk that are, in your opinion, a bit special. Maybe because of their position, quality of service etc etc. It doesn’t have to be a Hilton/Radisson. A locally owned place would suit very well.

@Peggerz these two hotels are where I usually stay and they are hands down the best in Gdańsk. What we do sometimes is we rent an apartment on Wyspa Spichrzow (northern part) as it has a stunning view of the old city, most apartments have big balconies and overlook the marina with boats. On top of that, downstairs are some of the best restaurants in Gdańsk and it is 5 mins walk to the Main Street.
Gdańsk is a beautiful city, you’ll have a great time. Visit Solidarity museum, eat at a local milk bar (Polish workers/student canteen, they serve the best authentic food)and see if you have time to visit Malbork castle on a day trip.

We stayed at Hotel Podewils a few years back. Old-fashioned/antique luxury feel, and good service/location. Not as service intensive/luxe as one of the big international 5* hotels, but was also much cheaper than that type of hotel at the time. Would go back!

Don’t remember the hotel bar, but there was plenty nearby
