This might be a timely question for those with free night awards expiring on December 31st… Are there any less known, high-value redemptions for the free night certificate in addition to the InterContinental hotels in Maldives / Bora Bora / Paris / London / New York?
Have the recent portfolio moves at IHG added any good value opportunities?
– Six Senses: still not bookable?
– Mr & Mrs Smith: any high-end hotels open for the free night booking?
We’ve just used ours for one of the Kimpton properties in Key West next month. The free night worked for a room type that was higher than the ‘standard’ room and was priced at $600 when we booked. Not sure how this compares to some of the others you mention, but it’s more than the value we got at IC London a few years ago.
Six senses Laamu is bookable on points but not sure about the free certificate, good use of points with rooms over $1000 per night whilst i was there
Six Senses still a no. It’s usable for some Mr & Mrs Smith but the search is erratic.
Nothing much seemed to come up in the US but I did find Blue Lagoon Retreat in Iceland (£1k/night), various expensive properties in Italy including suites in Rocco Forte hotels for €3k/night, some expensive stuff in Santorini.
And in the UK: Chewton Glen, Cliveden, Heckfield Place all of which aren’t cheap. The dates can be elusive but they are there.
One tip – even if there are only two of you try searching again for 4 if you find something you like. Sometimes it returns a better room/suite to accommodate the numbers.
In the end I used my remaining 3 vouchers for a nice place in Croatia in the summer @ €400/night. Last week that would’ve seemed like a massive result but now I feel like I haven’t maximised it!
Booked a night in one of the Italian castellos – thank you all!

Thank you so much for this tip. Just managed to book a lovely suite in Italy next year at a Mr and Mrs Smith hotel worth over 1000€ – hopefully we get to go!
It didn’t seem as if all Mr and Mrs Smith hotels were available for booking through IHG but the following website seems to show the ones which should appear in the IHG search: https://www.ihg.com/rewardsclub/content/us/en/mrmrssmith/hotel-directory
Kimptons are a good option, used 2 vouchers in Miami last month, both around the $450 mark
