Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Flight delayed but I didn’t fly it ….

I was informed at 1am today that my 8.30am flight from Edi-Bhd was delayed from 8.30 to 12.25. As this is a same day return for my dads funeral tea at 1pm, that wouldn’t work for me. So at 1am I booked Gla-Bhd at 8.30, which has since been delayed but only 70 mins so far. Can I claim anything for the Edi flight or is nothing due as I’m not flying it?

Sory to hear about you dad, @Tracy. Normally you have to take the flight to be eligible for delay compo, but you might be able to get a refund if the time change falls within BA’s policy, I’m not sure how many hours this is on short haul flights.

Thanks @NorthernLass, it’s emerald airways booked with Aer Lingus….might just be a refund then….

Apologies, that was me making assumptions! It should say on their website what they class as a delay long enough to trigger a refund.
Also is it a delay or an actual cancellation (different flight number)? If cancellation you would have a better entitlement than for just a delay.

As far as I can tell it’s a delay, they probably don’t want to cancel 😂

Sorry to hear of your loss.

check the flight number if it’s changed then it’s legally a cancellation whatever they call it, and they will owe you rerouting costs, which your ex GLA flight should count as, as well as compo.

You can sort it out when you get home. For now, best to let the airline know you can’t depart at their proposed new time as that time can no longer meet the purpose of your trip. A call or attempted calls (3 or so if you cant get through) or tweet will be enough then sort it out later.
