Hi I wonder if someone can help me, My flight with Lufthansa just got cancelled but I was wondering if someone has the experience of re-booking but to from another city? It was meant to depart from Dublin and I was hoping to move it to London
I’m exactly in the same boat as of this morning. I haven’t seen any official rules about origin changes, but from other posts on here it seems they might be willing to do that (although in my case there are other “suitable” flights from DUB still). I was going to call them the next few days or so, as my flights are not until January… Let me know how you get one if you speak to them.
You need to speak to LH as it would depends on their policy in these circumstances.
You have no EU261 right to reroute to stat your trip elsewhere as your ticket is for DUB-Germany.
Well, they moved me from a cancelled BHX flight to an LHR flight, if that’s of any help
Update: they can move you to any airport within 200miles so I moved to Manchester – yes BHX and LHR has 87miles I think
Thanks @rhonal27 – for the update. Good to know for future about the 200 miles.
I just had the most bizarre experience with LH. Wanted to take advantage of the cancellation and to depart a day earlier on our itinerary DUB-MUC-SIN-ADL (LH+SQ). Not a problem. I had my new flights ready, but was just curious what the agent was going to offer me. After 5 mins on hold he came back with DUB-LHR-ZRH-SIN-ADL! Very surprised so I asked what airline is it between DUB and LHR, after another 2 minutes of finding out he said British Airways 😀 … Despite 3 other LH group alternatives from DUB. Eventually he managed to change things as I wished – all good.
I login to MMB to check the changes and surprise – outbound is now in Economy. Luckily their wait times is 15mins max, so sorted now. So here’s a datapoint for that LH will put you on a BA flight just fine…
Yeah BA has an arrangement to ticket Lufthansa so not surprised it would work both ways.
Actually whether there’s any deal between particular airlines or not, is legally completely irrelevant and not a valid reason for an airline that cancelled your flight to refuse to reroute you on a flight that meets other criteria you have a right to.
For example BA has often been reported as refusing to reroute on Qatar when they cancelled someone’s flight. Eg Qatar has a flight 2 hours later, no other airline has a flight remotely near that time and BA’s next flight is not for 3 days… a lot of past reports of BA illegally telling the passenger “we can’t put you on the Qatar flight because we haven’t got an agreement with them [valid for that date] “. It’s tosh, snd it’s illegal.
