Wife travelling on BA economy hand baggage only fare BHD – LCY this coming weekend, and I went into her MMB earlier to select seat using her new RJ Silver Jay status (which I had booked the flights with, leaving off her BA Blue exec No).
I was allowed to select a seat for her return leg on 17th, but unable to select her outbound seat for 14th!
“Error, please contact BA” both online and in the app.
I just spent 3.5 hours, 2 chat agents and 2 on the phone totally exasperated, first 2 telling me under no circumstances could I book seats for free on a hand baggage only fare at any time, I had to pay whether Oneworld Ruby or indeed BA Bronze! The second one even further insisted I couldn’t book free seats travelling HBO as Oneworld Saphire!!
    Third one simply didn’t know.
Fourth agent on the phone was a breath of fresh air, couldn’t be more helpful, told me I was completely correct, booked the free seat herself, and told me to call and change to the BA exec number the day before flights to get the tier points and avios!
Where on earth do they get some of these people!

Should be mandatory for all call centre agents to subscribe to the HFP forums 😀

    Hi,

I’m flying from Belfast on Sunday. A few queries.

This is the return leg of my booking which has a BAEC number attached. I’m assuming it’s too late to change this to my RJ number.

I can log into the RJ site and have access to my status that way but I’ve been trying and failing to log into the app. It times out if I use my membership number and claims that my email address isn’t linked to my account despite the fact that I’ve received several emails from them. Any thoughts/help? Thanks

I’m flying a return leg of a flight from Belfast on Sunday. I currently have my BAEC number in the booking. I’m assuming that I cannot change this as I’ve now flown half the booking. I thought I could just show my online RJ card at the lounge but was hoping that I could at least log into the app to do so but I cannot. I’ve tried using my email address instead by it claims that it isn’t linked to an account despite me having received emails from RJ. Any thoughts/help? Thanks

Is there any reason you want to attach your RJ membership? You can message BA on Twitter with your full name, booking ref, passport number, a past flight you’ve taken and your address (I think that means you pass security without waiting for them to message about it) and then ask them to add it, or you can ask them to add it at a check-in desk (eg for lounge access).

You could also try changing your seat via manage my booking on Royal Air Maroc and then it should update to have your status on the boarding pass, but you then won’t earn TPs / Avios.

As a data point, asking on twitter worked really well! Yes, it was for lounge access. Also, Belfast does provide fast track too

Haven’t tried Aspire Belfast City with my RJ status yet, but I’m assuming it’s RJ Gold Sparrow you have and you did get into the lounge?

Also, far as I was aware you don’t need your RJ status to be on your boarding pass to get into the lounges anyway, just show them your OW Status as a screenshot or in the app?

The fast track is one I hadn’t thought of though, good spot

I’ve just had my refund from AA for having paid for Preferred seats

Was the process smooth? I just paid for extra luggage today and fear I’ll have to do so again in a few days on my return segment if they can’t solve this issue by then

Do you have to have an air maroc account to do this? I’ve tried to add my RJ number to several bookings in air maroc and it won’t stick. Wondering if I need an air maroc account?

I’ve finally been able to select preferred seating for our Alaska Airlines flight tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll get the other perks at the airport.

Ignore my last, trying to check in and being charged for bags.

not very. They first came back saying that I wasn’t due a refund, but when I explained again why I was, it came through a few days later with no more discussion. Could have been worse!

Just made the first use of my status to get in the Clubrooms lounge at Birmingham airport. Should have got in due to flying Qatar business class, but check in staff said we weren’t on the list and had no access to the lounge. RJ gold sparrowhawk to the rescue!

Hi to you (and Tontoro) – any luck using your RJ status at AS/AA lounges when traveling on a fully domestic intinerary? I care less about the bags and seats given my US flights are usually HBO, but it would be nice to know if those issues have also been resolved?

I’m considering switching to RJ from BA, but will probably do Iberia if it is going to be a pain to use the benefits on the US carriers.

    Thank you for your help

@jonr405 No lounge access for me, the status didn’t show up at all on my Alaska booking. Managed to jump the boarding queue using the Apple Wallet card though. That was about it, booked using Avios from BA probably caused the problems.

Ah OK thanks for letting me know. I’ll have a dig around for other data points. I really need another OneWorld program to get into US lounges now that BA is going spend based, but luckily I’ll have status until April 2026. One year to figure out if RJ works.

If anyone else has successfully used their RJ status on American Airlines lounges please let me know here.

    Thank you!

    OW lounge finder states –

Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Qantas offer programmes enabling customers to pay to gain access to their lounges. These programmes are not part of the oneworld agreement, and members of these programmes are not entitled to access lounges under the oneworld agreement.

Is it not a matter of the staff at the US lounges just not knowing the rules? That reads as AA/AS/QF members dont get access to lounges that are paid access but all other OW program members are entitled to access, but it could be written more clearly.
