What time ought one to arrive at LCY for an early morning departure (before 7am). Baggage to check in including pushchair, car seats etc. (parking there) Is it closed until a certain time? Any experiences this week in terms of the mess being experienced in other airports? Thanks for your advice!

LCY is small but efficient. It has a high ratio of regular fliers who know the drill re security so it’s always been quick.

Mr Google says it opens at 4.45 but it depends which airline your with as to when their desks open.

If your flight was at 7, I’d say you could get there at 6 and still have plenty of time to spare. Official guidance is to arrive 35-45 mins before flight, but nothing wrong going there early and watch the planes take off and land at eye level for a bit… Or have breakfast at the pub/restaurant.

Flew last week and it was extremely quiet. It’s my favourite London airport.

I would aim for 1 hour before, unless your child is extremely punctual and wakes up early.

Before I had children and with no bags, I have arrived on the DLR at 6.45 for a 7am flight and made it, and I also arrived at 6.40 for a 7am flight and didn’t make it (was aiming for 6.30 but my tube train got stuck underground for 10 minutes).

Really? I always thought there was the limit to clear security 20 minutes before the departure. I’ve never been brave enough to make it under 30mins, despite living 25mins away…

It’s check-in that closes at 20 minutes before.

I just checked the BA website and it does say do both check in and security 20 minutes before, but that’s not logical as you know it takes 1-2 minutes to go up to the security entrance. AFAIK there is no conformance like LHR T5.

I also know that I have checked a bag 15 minutes before scheduled departure but the flight was already showing as delayed (though I only became aware of that after my overground train stopped moving and didn’t restart for 15 minutes), but the age of doing risky things is over with a small child now.
