Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Finding out reason for delay

  • 227 posts

I should probably know the answer to this but am trying to find out the reason for a delayed flight. It was Emirates from Gatwick to Dubai on Friday evening. The delay was only 70 minutes but resulted in a missed connection and a delay in getting to the destination of more than 24 hours.

Just want to know whether to bother putting in a claim.

Is there a way I can find out the reason for the delay?

At this stage the reason for the delay doesn’t greatly matter. If you weren’t given a reason for the delay or don’t trust the reason(s) given for the delay, you should make a claim. The onus is ultimately on Emirates to prove ‘extraordinary circumstances’ if they reject your claim. It’s unfortunate when a relatively short causes a missed connection resulting in a the lengthy delay you experienced. Emirates should have covered your accommodation, food, communications and any additional transport costs while you were waiting for the next flight, irrespective of the reason for the delay.

There’s no risk in making a claim, but there’s a fair probability that the delay was caused by ATC and/or weather which are proving a serious issue across much of Europe at present, including for overflights on routes to ME/Asia. Lastly, Emirates doesn’t do ADR so if your claim is denied, MCOL is your only remaining option.

Thank you very much for the advice and for taking the time to reply.
