Forums Other Destination advice Favourite hotel bathroom products

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum… I didn’t see a better fit!)

Prompted by a comment in the recent Graduate Hotels review, I wondered if folks here have a favourite brand of bathroom product from their various hotel experiences.

My recent favourite was found in a few InterContinental hotels who are switching to Byredo products. I’ve tried both the Bal d’Afrique and Gypsy Water fragrancies of their shower gel, shampoo, and body lotion. Both incredible!

So… what are your favourites, and have you ever gone so far as to treat yourself at home to any you found on your travels?

Hermes Orange Verte is amazing. We always ask for more from the hotel. I think last time it was the Langley.

And formerly the CX Lounge in LHR. Fondly missed 🙁

I second Byredo Bal d’Afrique; I brought the soap home.

Atelier Cologne Musc Imperial may be my favourite, because I had it in the Hotel Majestic Barcelona which was the inspiration for the scent.

Hermes Orange Verte will always have a soft spot for me but, strangely I guess, my favourite are the Agraria Lemon Verbena toileteries you get as standard in ICs all over the world. Fresh, invigorating and an intense quality to them (IMO). I’ve got a whole draw of them at home which have been liberated from across the planet.

I’m personally a big fan of the le labo amenities in edition hotels. Since using those for the first time I’ve actually ended up getting the thé noir 29 range, which is the le labo name for the scent, as a Christmas gift the other year.

Whatever they use at Rangali is wonderful. I always try to bring lots home.

Another vote for the Bal d’Afrique, but also the Vdara in Las Vegas has Lovely toiletries. Last time we went I would put the unopened ones tidily away in my suitcase each day so new ones would appear. On our last day housekeeping left us 3 lots with a little smiley note 😂.
(the Vdara has a soft spot in my heart as they also will give you a proper kettle to make a proper cup of tea!!)

My latest gift from Mr & Mrs Smith: Bramley hand wash with lavender, geranium and petitgrain essential oils – fancy that! The dispenser is glass, which makes it heavy (250 ml) but should last. First time I’ve come across this stuff not in plastic at any hotel (the giveaway included one plastic dispenser too).

The Bramley one is gorgeous – they have those in most of the Indigo hotels I’ve stayed in.
Orange Vert and Agraria lovely as well.
One I absolutely love but can only recall in the Durham Marriott was Green Mandarin by ACCA KAPPA.

Several years ago we stayed regularly in Hiltons when they were using Peter Thomas Roth. I ended up loving the smell of the shampoo that contained hundreds ‘n’ thousands. I associated the smell with holidays and wish they still made it…

Le Labo for me too, via a couple of Fairmont stays we had in the US several years ago. Also Molton Brown, last time was the ‘intern rate’ at Sheraton Grand Park Lane.

I also like those, but the bad news is that IC are switching to Byredo.

I also have a big bag of the Agraria stuff at home though! Very nice.

As if the staff at Le Royal Meridien Dubai were reading this forum, I returned to my room today to find not the usual Malin + Goetz products but instead Byredo. Of course another reason could be that their M+G stocks are low so they’re using Byredo from sister hotel Grosvenor House. But I’m sticking with my original assumption that since Rhys did that review, they’re avid readers.

I have somewhat sensitive skin, and a scalp that will create dandruff with the wrong products. I used to frequently have issues with rashes or appalling hair after stays in hotels, which I put down to the detergents used to wash the sheets and/or the bathroom products. Good hotels or cheap hotels, the problem could occur anywhere.

At some point in the last twenty years this problem went away. Everywhere seems to have adopted products that are of reasonable quality it seems!

The Kronokare Voyage In India stuff they have in LaLit is memorable, as it does what it says on the tin, and conjures up sensations of Indianess, even in London.

Marriott’s Luxury Collection also has Byredo, but Le Chemin. Of Byredo, I like Bal d’Afrique better.

Neither is my favourite though. I fell in love recently with Loto del Sur (Acacia del Amazonas), a Colombian brand that they have at some Hyatt properties in South America. Went to their store and bought several products on a recent trip. I also like Salvatore Ferragamo’s Tuscan Soul at Waldorf Astoria properties. So I’d say my top 3 are Loto del Sur, Tuscan Soul and then Byredo.

Didn’t they switch from Agraria to Anne Semonin? I have a still have huge Anna Semonin left from my pandemix trips to ICs. They were literary showering us with extras during pandemic as they tried to get rid of the stock.

I’m not sure… Vienna and Edinburgh last year both used the Agraria stuff. Earlier this year I was back at Edinburgh and they had switched to Byredo. I mentioned that I loved the new products and they gave me a massive bag of Agraria bottles when I checked out, so it seemed in transition and they were offloading.

Then Toronto last month was all Byredo, but Montreal were using “Zenology” stuff which I did not like at all. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I love the Harnn brand stuff that ICs use in Thailand and Vietnam. The stuff smells like “holiday” to me.

I really like the L’occitane jasmine and bergamot that some IC’s have. And of course Clarins in some Melia hotels

    Agraria to Anne Semonin

I haven’t seen Anne Semonin for a number of years (probably last time was IC O2 c.2018). Agraria has been ubiquitous for a number of years now globally. I will be sad if they phase it out.
