Hi all, first post here – i’ve applied and actually received a Barclaycard Avios card today. It’s taken since pretty much launch day since I applied.
Firstly I had to upload the documents (as required being self employed).
I then got a daily e-mail to tell me time was running out to upload my documents.
So, reuploaded. Same message.
Rang them on Friday to ask what was going on. Then told to upload Tax Overviews plus bank statement (this is after the SA302 document). Tried and failed on the first attempt. Successful on the second.
No more emails asking for information.
Card arrived today – with a £200 limit.
Just come off the phone (Hour and a half later) – they cannot / will not change credit limit.
£200 limit when you need to spend £3000 in 3 months to get the 25,000 Avios bonus is impossible to do (isn’t it?!!)
Asked to close the card – was told I could’t close it for 21 days initially….finally told they would close my account on 25th.
What a waste of time.
Anyone else had the silly credit limit (just to clarify, my earnings are very reasonable!!)
FYI – Also had American Express Gold Card (Business) recently, no issues, card through to me in days. Credit limit of £20k….
Am I missing something here?!!!
Yeah, you are definitely not the only one having issues!
https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/applied-a-week-ago-but-no-reply-yet/page/6/The credit limit though, did they explain that at all? Surely it is only temporarily that low?
If it’s like the old Hilton Barclaycard you can pay off the card mid month multiple times but it would make hitting the target much harder admittedly.

Nothing they could do apparently – I don’t have time to wait for weeks for credit limits to be upped (particularly charging me £20/month for the privilege!)…there’s a few big ticket things i’ve been holding fire on until this card arrived. If they can see my credit file, they’ll know what they could offer me from the start. I’ve never had any issues with any other credit cards – Sainsburys, Tesco, Amex.

I bet Rob is regretting ever getting involved with this shower!
I’m starting to understand why HH liked to go to Solihull so much, and also why the relationship with Che is still so solid. 🤣

You have to give a good, slow clap to their wanting to use up 10% of your allowance each month!

Rob has quite easily suffered the most out of all of this, I reckon.
Well I think we’ve found the masterthread name!
And a £200 limit? Don’t they understand us lot spend more than that on a mid-week light lunch?
£200 credit limit? What a joke! It’s not some student credit card to help build your credit! 🤦♂️
The idea of having to pay off the card every week just to hit the target (assuming you can spend in neat £200 blocks) does not appeal in the slightest.

Paying off every week with a £200 credit limit? More like every hour!!
3 things :
(1) lenders apparently simply refused self employed applicants since start of covid. As soon as the stats told them this segment of clients were hit harder by Covid and beyond their risk parameters. I’d be surprised if that’s not still a problem in their view. Hence the £200 credit limit. Would have been a poor level even in 1978!
(2) just possible your total credit available is already high as a ratio to your income after commitments. Possibly because they are applying a more demanding ratio to the self-employed or some other reason – so there’s not much credit left they can give you as a starter and still remain within their comfort level.
(3) they may have hired someone from Creation – who also issued some super-low credit limits to people who were used to far more.
I also had a ridiculously low limit for another card from Barclays, just over £100. I would have preferred if they had just rejected my application. In the end (beginning?) just cancelled the card without activating.
Btw no problems with income and other cards are just fine, all have limits between 10-20k.Reading all these comments, I kinda feel lucky. I was initially planning to switch my current account to Premier after applying for the card. What an awful bank to deal with

As a self employed person I got a £25k limit within 48 hours with Capital On Tap less than 6 months ago, and none of the application or functionality issues that people are currently finding with B’card – but I got only a £3k limit with Barclaycard Business a few months earlier (both recommended by HfP – you’re welcome)
I guess Barclaycard just doesn’t want our business? Dunno for sure, cos I have 2 existing B’cards, so I’m excluded from the B’card Avios card anyway – *checks watch while waiting for a resolution, and spending 10’s of k’s a month on CoT in the meantime…

Me too, though after the HSBC premier debacle I was suspicious. Having now seen and experienced this I can see that Barclays are no different, so won’t be bothering with them either.

Phew, Im so glad that’s not just me!
You surely mean breakfast. I don’t know, what can a person even buy on a £200 lunch? A piece of dry toast?

Phew also! £200/head doesn’t get one very far in London for a good lunch, let alone dinner if any wine is involved. Pleased to say however, that having been to Mexico City and Buenos Aires in the last four months, £200 goes a whole lot further and both cities are at the cutting edge of cuisine, ambiance and excellent service.

Yup: same shit; different toilet.
Setting up an HSBC account wasn’t so bad to be fair (and the same goes for the Barclays Premier current account). But getting the respective credit card for either was and is a nightmare. HSBC pretty much ignored any card transaction queries and disputes, but I at least managed to get some sort of compensation from them.
Not the case with Barclays so far… they don’t even acknowledge complaints! I had mine closed down the day it was made. Absolute shower.
Just a quick update to this, had an email to say my statement was ready, complete with £20 charge. Rang to tell them I wanted to close the account and wasn’t going to be paying the £20.
They said it was in the t&c’s – this for a card I had in my possession for all of 2 hours!
Eventually, they asked what could be done to stop them losing me as a customer – I said as long as the credit limit was reasonable I would use the card. They duly wrote this down, logged a complaint and said someone would call in the next few days
Then this morning, another e-mail thanking me for the £20 payment – when I went to check the account online, can no longer access the information.
I guess this means the episode is now over…
I’ve also now started closing my payment acceptance for my business pdq transactions with Barclaycard, and switched to someone else. Made me feel good if nothing else!!
I wish they would tell you your limit as you are applying. I would just walk away immediately if they said £200 limit. I wouldn’t bother. Same everyone some effort.
I’m not sure Barclays systems for processing applications are the best as I was given a £200 limit as well despite a 6 figure salary
They did eventually up the limit, but only after I provided proof of earnings and the limit is well below what Amex and virgin gave me
