I was due to check in to a London Hilton tomorrow for 3 nights. (I won’t mention which one in public incase I get someone in trouble)
The booking was advanced purchase non-refundable taking advantage of last years £50 cash back.
However due to a flood at home we are unable to travel this weekend. I called the hotel directly and made sure I spoke to in-house reservations and they kindly agreed to move the booking until later in the month.
Rate is different as shorter notice but at lest we haven’t lost over £500
Hilton are generally really great in these circumstances – I’ve moved a few bookings where I’ve paid in advance then had to change my plans.
Yet, some people will book through OTAs to save 5 quid.
It’s fantastic service from the individual, unnamed, hotel rather than Hilton.
Although if you called Hilton they would probably just have called the hotel for you and achieved the same result.

It’s good to hear. I just assumed they would go with the t&cs
Good to hear this – I have done similar with IHG before with sympathetic circumstances.
I think this is generally a hidden benefit of booking direct – would never happen with an OTA.
Also a plus for asking nicely and getting results 🙂
Same happened to me , great service from Hilton in Cardiff, who happily changed a advanced purchase non-refundable booking from 17th Feb to 27th Jan because of a change in plan
Here’s hoping now as Hilton Gold member they’ll be able to upgrade the room as well
Anyone know the chances of a late check out (if asking at the desk)?

If you see my previous thread. We got a triple upgrade at Hilton Cardiff. Was a nice stay. Personally we didn’t like the curved room although it was larger much of the space is wasted in poor design.
