Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help EZY8845 to Reykjavik

We’re currently in the Plaza Premium Lounge in Gatwick North. Our 2:30pm easyJet flight to Reykjavik is delayed, currently due to leave at 17:07 but it doesn’t look like our plane has left Reykjavik yet so I am anticipating a delay of over three hours. EasyJet is pre-emptively stating the delay is due to air traffic restrictions. Does anyone know how I can find out if this is true?

Flightradar app. Check the movements of the aircraft allocated to your flight. Go back 3 flights if you can. Look at recent history of this flight and check if other flights of other airlines are still flying the route or similar, normally. Take screenshots.

@Claire – I hope you eventually made it to wonderful Iceland and have a great time there, hopefully with a sighting of the Northern Lights. In respect of your delay, it’s worth doing all the things @LadyLondon suggests by way of background but it won’t tell you whether the claim of air traffic restrictions was legit or not and airlines will juggle aircraft around so that doesn’t provide any definitive evidence.

In these circumstances, where you have a delay well beyond the compensation threshold but there is some question as to the cause of the delay and/or applicability of ‘extraordinary circumstances’ you simply need to claim the delay compensation and see how EasyJet responds and, if they deny your claim, decide how to respond depending on their reasoning. Please keep us in touch with how you get on and ask again if you need further assistance.

Thank you very much @ladylondon and @jdb for the advice. I will put a claim in but I’m not hopeful as LGW did seem to be impacted by a lot of delays. We were delayed about five hours in total but it was worth it, Iceland was just fantastic and I can’t wait to get back. We saw a faint wisp of the northern lights as well as some of the eruption. The original reason for going was for some snow for my five year old and we were not disappointed. It was honestly a fantastic holiday and destination.
