My husband and I had our first ever resort holiday this year with the intention of doing nothing… I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but we had a lovely time. We stayed for a week at the Mayia Exclusive Resort in Rhodes. We can imagine doing a similar holiday in future years too, and curious about other options.
Things we liked:
* The food was of a good standard. Worse than we’d eat at home or on a city break, but better than I expected from a resort. Drinks were high quality. Staff were excellent.
* It was spacious and quiet, with no kids. Seemed to be plenty of space for the number of guests.
I’m just curious if folks here have experience at alternative properties that might be worth considering. I’ve heard people recommend Ikos hotels before, but they seem to market themselves as family friendly so I don’t think it’d be worth the risk. Then again, perhaps at the right time of the year there may be resorts that are unappealing enough to families / children that they’re effectively adults-only? 🤔
Following this with interest.
However I can’t help but think of Virgin Voyages too. Europe, great food included, no kids, high standard of accomodation … a floating resort!
One of the interesting options in Canaries is Paradisus by Melia Lanzarote.
Ikos are worth it even if they are family friendly. Still enough space and experiences to please adults too
Sani, Olivia in Halkidiki are worth visiting. There are others in Greece and Spain too
I did consider a cruise, and I do really want to try Virgin Voyages. We’ve cruised many times before and generally enjoyed it, but this particular holiday is supposed to be a “read, drink, and relax” kind of trip and I think a cruise isn’t the best option for that. It’s at the back of my mind though.

Interesting, thanks! It looks quite nice so will give it a thought.

It’s less about experiences to please adults, but avoiding the screams of kids in a pool for example. It’s not the vibe we’re looking for for this trip. That said, a lot of people rave about Ikos resorts (even those going as an adult couple) so I might try to investigate a bit more.
Appreciate the other suggestions. Will definitely check them out.
Barceló Margaritas Royal Level in Gran Canaria. I enjoyed my stay here – the pool area wasn’t crowded, the food was very good and the drinks were excellent with top brand spirits included. The Royal Level is adults only but the rest of the resort is more suited to families. The rooms aren’t luxurious but were clean and comfortable.
I actually stayed with kids before they made the Royal Level adult only. Had they not made that change I would have returned!!

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll take a look. An adults only enclave within an otherwise family-friendly resort might be a good option.
I’m a member of a Sandals group on Facebook and this question often comes up. Have searched and some recommended options:
Rixos
Olympic Lagoon Paphos/Ayia Napa (Adult Only section) – We’re actually considering this one for the family
Barut Hemera, Turkey
Amare, Marbella (not AI, but Adults only)
Zafiro Palace Andratx
I went to Ikos Olivia this year, my first ever resort holiday which was very nice. They have adult only area, we went with a baby during non school holidays so you will mainly see very young children.
The children tend to dine early so if you go in non school holiday times, and dine late, you won’t see many kids.
Kids are also not allow into the spa and I think at least one place breakfast is adults only too.
The only place I found very noisy was the main pool as when we went it was too cold to swim in the sea so the kids was by the main pool. the adult only pool had no swimmers just loads of adults reading silently by the pool 😂 There is also an adult only beach area.
Worth checking out in your opinion if there are enough adult activities for you.
Worth bearing in mind other countries like the US their schools break earlier as do UK private schools. Also Ikos seemed popular with people who have non school aged kids. We bumped into my sister’s friend who is doing their last Ikos before their kid turns school age.
