Discuss today's stories:
@Jenniekg. By all means ask why your final arrival back at LGW doesn’t count for EC261 compensation but you will get the stock answer that London has several airports and the arrival time at any of the airports is what counts, not specifically LGW vs LHR as has been explained several times. This has always been the case, you are not going to change this.
And as much as it is annoying, if you think about it, you are asking for BA to pay you compensation based on a set of circumstances outside of their control. BA has control over flying its aircraft between airports, not the land transfers between them.
It is not BA’s fault you encountered rush hour traffic and were stuck on the M25 contributing to the delay. You could have transferred more quickly by tube and train which might have been more reliable time wise but is not convenient especially as your husband is disabled.
BA is definitely on the hook for the taxi fare though. I would emphasise your husband’s disability as the reason for using a taxi.
I would suggest asking for a larger cash and Avios payout to reflect the additional stress for your disabled husband having first been involuntarily downgraded on the flight home and the discomfort of the long taxi ride back to LGW after arriving at LHR rather than LGW.
Also say you only took that flight because you were wrongly informed that BA would not pay the extra hotel nights for you to wait for the CtA to LGW flight on 15 June. Emphasise that you felt forced to take the LHR flight even though you wanted to take the LGW flight as was your right. Point out you saved BA £450 in hotel bills by doing so so feel £30 + 10k Avios is not enough.
