    Hi
Looking to book tickets for our honeymoon with Emirates business from LHR to Male Maldives next April. I currently hold amex plat card. I have a basic Emirates account with only 6k points. Does anyone have any tips on how to drive the price down a little. It will be cash as I don’t have enough points to open up any form of redemption.
    Thanks

I don’t have any tricks & doubt there are any leveraging 6k miles but general advise would be to not book anything 12 months out on any route unless you know there’s a major event like a World Cup which will fill all capacity significantly in advance.

People buying at this stage are telling the airline they feel they have to travel on those dates & are therefore price insensitive. Presumably you are price sensitive hence the post here? Yes, you are booking a honeymoon but these flights won’t sell out >6 months out, if they miraculously do then you explore other equally good airlines who are not in short supply ex LHR.

Explore your options on Google flights, this will tell you the usual price range for that date/class/route. Setup a notification for what you believe is an acceptable price. (I’d suggest no less than lowest +10%) then wait for a notification. Once you get the notification book & never look at the prices again as you’ll have paid a price you’re happy with. Also set yourself a cut off at which you will book regardless. For a honeymoon I’d say no earlier than 6 months out but I wouldn’t go under 4 months. The best prices are statistically at around T-6 weeks but you are bringing availability into the equation there so would only do that when you have some flexibility on dates & destinations.

Are you really wedded to Emirates? I wouldn’t say they are that much better in J than other 1 stop options like Qatar, Ethiad or even KLM & Lufthansa/Swiss. BA will always charge more than they’re worth due to direct premium.

Thanks for the comprehensive response. Will look at other one stop options. Not Wed to Emirates but do need to arrive in MLE before 2pm.

Swiss via ZRH could be a good option if they’re flying on the dates you want. The A330/A340 is a little dated but the service feels happier/more genuine than Emirates and the food in J also better.

Just flew to DXB with them and all good.
