I’ve seen a few threads regarding the direct LHR-BKK flight for BA, but this is a slightly broader question.
I’m looking for some creative ideas on how to use either Avios/Amex Points/Virgin Points/etc. for late December to late Jan travel in Economy. Cash prices seem quite spicy, though I may just need to bite the bullet and splurge ~GBP1200 for a ticket should I not find anything decent.
I’ve already done the following:
a) Priced tickets Avios with stopovers in DOH both on ba.com and qatarairways.com and though (surprisingly) there is availability in Economy for the dates that I’m after, the surcharges and Avios requirements for both websites are too high (only achieve 1.03p/avios or so)
b) Tried to view availability for Virgin partners (I’ve got about 90k orphan miles I have no idea what to do with), but apart from these aspirational ANA flights to NRT, I can’t find suggestions to get to BKK.
c) Not award related, but tried Amex travel as I’m an Amex Plat cardholder but worse and more expensive flights than aggregators.
Any creative ideas on how to use miles for this trip, or should I accept the inevitable?
Thanks all!
Anything on BA going LON-XXX and then RJ XXX-AMM-BKK, on separate tickets? with an overnight hotel at XXX? Perhaps returning BKK-AMM-LHR?
For Virgin SkyTeam partners anything via China?
Don’t expect a lot of value when redeeming points for economy.
The only realistic points options are BA to India or Srilanka and separate flights from there.
Virgin might have access to SQ economy seats. Check on Aeroplan or United website.
Virgin also does codeshare with Vistara, though not sure if this extends to BKK.

BA don’t fly to Sri Lanka.

Oops. Missed that. Then the other option is to use avios on Srilankan airlines. Availability shouldn’t be a problem.
