Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Earliest notification of a room upgrade?

My partner and I are about to spend a week at Sheraton Fuerteventura, booked as a 5 night points redemption, back to back with a 2 night cash stay.

When booking, we selected a King Deluxe sea view room (1 category up from the entry level ‘garden view’ king).

At around 10 days before travel I went to apply 5 x suite night awards to the points stay, only to see, to my astonishment, that both bookings have already been upgraded by what appears to be 2 additional categories, to a junior suite with sea view.

Maybe there is more to it than I’ll ever know about. For example, as a holiday resort, perhaps they already know they have an oversales problem in the category I booked that week.

All I can say is that ‘banking’ my 5 x SNA for use in 2024 has immediately bought the property an abundance of my goodwill. It shows proactivity and good management, and it demonstrates respect for my loyalty to Bonvoy.

Data points; I’m Bonvoy Titanium; 79 nights to date in 2023; and we’re not returning guests to this property.

It got me thinking, what’s the earliest upgrade folks have ever received? More importantly, once you got it, did it stick? I really hope I don’t have to repost here in a few days saying that they’ve taken it away again 🙂

I wouldn’t be surprised if you are downgraded closer to time. At the moment, they think they can upgrade you, but if paid booking(s) comes along they might cancel your upgrade. I’d say monitor it on a daily basis. It’s nothing unusual. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn’t.

Thanks Meta! It’s interesting that you find it nothing unusual. My experience as a multi year Titanium is very different to yours! I haven’t (ever) had an upgrade prior to the day before check in. Usually on the day. Do you regularly get upgraded so far in advance?

It’s not regular, but rather tied to length of stay. Longer stays usually further in advance. I also have a lot of experience of being upgraded then downgraded then upgraded again a few days before.
