Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Dubai Feb upgrades

Thinking of the LRM or GH in Dubai in Feb, I’ve been before but wondered what the chances of an upgrade is for a Gold? Booking via Emirates holidays, will this make a difference? The service in GH has impressed but never had an upgrade, is this unusual?

Via Emirates Holidays you won’t rank in the upgrade hierarchy. I stayed LRM as a Titanium last Feb and the place was chocka. I got a one category upgrade to a sea view entry level room and had to fight my case for lounge access (tried to fob me off with a lounge-equivalent experience at first).

Booking via Emirates holidays as stated million times here, no points and no benefits. You can add the number and might get points for incidentals.

Even if you book direct, as a Bonvoy Gold you are not entitled to an upgrade other than perhaps a slightly better positioned room in the same category.

I’ve just booked GH via BA holidays as I expect nothing as gold by booking direct! Always acknowledged here in the UK, but on our recent US trip but service levels in the Marriott properties were woeful, e.g. being told to check out if I wasn’t happy about being without hot water for 2 days and only being refunded 1 night’s resort fee for the wifi not working for the entire 5 night stay. This was 2 different properties, by the way!

I didn’t get an upgrade at GH booked BA holiday December. I have gold through platinum Amex and let them know in advance. The room was fine anyway and ended up getting upgraded to a suite after 2 nights due to a dodgy air con fan keeping me up all night!

Thanks all, I’ll book a club room.

Is GH level 5 better than the the Royal Club? Mainly for cocktails and wine.

GH club is generally considered better and certainly will have fewer kids. For drinks by the glass I doubt you’d notice much difference. Maybe think about what you will use the club for. As in, do you intend to go to LRM to use the beach/pools? If so you’re unlikely to be using the GH club for afternoon tea.
