Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Does Qatar really guarantee BUS availability for rewards bookings?

In an article on 23rd March about Qatar’s Avios launch Like British Airways, it says “Qatar Airways will be guaranteeing Avios seats in all cabins on all flights. The exact amount will vary by cabin and by aircraft type, but there will be at least two Business Class seats available”.

Is this definitely true (I can’t find any mention of it in their press release)?

Initially I found it to be the case, e.g. when searching availability from the UK to Asia for March 2023 there were plenty of flights with BUS seats. However more recently, when searching for the return leg in April 2023 I can find no flights with BUS seats available for Avios bookings. I’ve tried calling Privilege Club but the agent was unaware of any ‘guarantee’ and could only confirm there is no availability whatsoever (even when searching at 2am on the day they’re released).

Anyone else having problems with BUS availability next April?

I think the article said that it will guarantee availability in the future, but doesn’t yet.

The way it was explained to me is that it will happen but wasn’t happening on Day 1 – although, in reality, it mainly was.

I THINK the reason for this was so they didn’t have to open up seats on key World Cup flights which have never had mileage availability. It would have been throwing money down the drain to suddenly open up piles of November availability.

    Just a guess though ….

I’ve had very little luck trying to find bus availability in a year’s time to Asia

I’ve also been looking at flights for next year to Asia. Before 21 March 23 – plenty of availability. From 21 March 2023 it seems have only released seats in Economy and nothing in Business in the destination I was looking at. This was the date that they joined avios (in 2022) – is this linked?

Interesting – perhaps it will go in waves.
