    Wondering if anyone else experienced this? I know from these forums of much frustration with Barclays but until now I have found them ok. Now its my turn.

    I had earned a Barclays Avios reward which was pending my choice (upgrade voucher or 7K Avios, the upgrade voucher of course being far more valuable to me). I switched from the Avios Card to the Avios plus card then the reward was no longer showing in the app. After a nearly 3 hour live chat, eventually told I should have selected the reward before upgrading the card, which I was never advised.

    It wouldn’t surprise me if Barclays’ IT couldn’t handle moving your reward details across. On the plus side of the flakiness though, are you now showing as able to start spending towards another voucher?

    You are definitely owed the first one but will probably have to fight for it. IME the chat agents know very little about their own products!

    Yeap to both, 3 hours on live chat this morning, complaint registered. Complaint handler said no way to re apply vouchers, what do I want, I guess they will offer me the 7K Avios alternative. I shall have to complete some dummy bookings if I am to fight to demonstrate what the voucher was worth to me.

    Anyone else thinking of going from Avios to Avios Plus be aware!

    I’ve fallen foul of this too! Could have kicked myself for not remembering to choose the option before downgrading. I’d written it off due to my stupidity but I’ll submit a complaint too although I won’t expect too much …

    when you say ‘not remembering’ how was you to know? I was not advised to do this prior to changing cards, and although the 3 hours on messaging with Barclays produced nothing other than confusion from an operator who kept looking for missing Avios even though I clearly explained, the complaints handler understood straight away. If you feel that you have been treated unfairly, I suggest follow up with a formal complaint.

    Well I didn’t know – although if I’d thought about it more , I would have triggered it on the basis of I’d have then definitely had it in my BAEC account for safekeeping! The target was still met and I believe the reward should still be given so will definitely follow this up.

    An update re this for the benefit of @keely and anyone else finding themselves in the same situation. After the frustrating 3 hours+ on chat with Barclays and being transferred to register a complaint, complaint handler contacted me today.

    When you switch cards with a choice of reward outstanding, Barclays automatically select the voucher for you (they don’t give you a choice and don’t advise you of this) and deposit with BA. Yes, its in my BAEC today. Recognition by Barclays that handled poorly and a fair chunk of £ comp credited to my card.
