Thinking about taking the Curve Pro free trial for a month before I depart for Korea and Japan.
Do they issue a new physical card? If so, do you need the new card before the benefits kick on?
Is it easy to downgrade back to the free card at the end of the month?
Was thinking about using Curve to front Barclaycard Avios instead of Chase, as Chase Cashback will end during my trip.
Thanks in anticipation for any answers. The Curve website is not really clear on how the offer works.
I took the free upgrade. Just continue using existing card. Didn’t downgrade in time, so on the hook for a month but I will be foreign spending to make it almost worth while !
When I took up the free trial the card number in the app instantly changed, and the physical card stopped working.
As I was outside the UK I had to use it online and I never activated the new physical card
The numbers work. 3k fronted gets you 3k points with the free BC (I see that as £30) and pro+ monthly £18. So the fx free is just upside and more points from your abroad spend.
Many thanks for the replies and advice. I’ve taken the free upgrade.
I hadn’t really looked at paid plans with Curve before, but even a paid upgrade would have been worth it, with 1% cash back and 1 avios / £ from Barclays.
I notice Curve says the ATM limit is £500 per calendar month. Does anyone know if that is correct? I thought it used be a rolling 30 days.
They tried the rolling 30 days and got lots of complaints, so reverted to calendar month. Applies to ATM, Fronted and FX.
Brilliant, thank you Andrew. I get two bites at the cherry then 🙂
I’d like very much to take them on their offer, but I click on the emails or the app notifications and it goes to a page for upgrade, and no free option.

This is interesting, did anyone else have the same issue? I will really need the physical card unless i can attach the new number to my phone.

Thanks for this, I thought it was still the rolling month.
Best of luck if something goes wrong or you need to contact them. Curve customer service has always been poor, but now its non existent. They don’t respond to any queries, complaints or questions.
I think Curve is safe enough for simple retail transactions. It either works, or it doesn’t.
But I won’t be using it to pay for hotels, car hire or petrol, where an initial authorisation is greater than the final amount due.
On the £500 fee-free limit per month, could I set hsbc credit as front, and do ATM withdrawal?
Or could I use ATM for sub-500 from a debit card, and then GBIT it to a credit card?
Am late to hop on the curve train and couldn’t find updated info elsewhere related to this.

Yes that’s the whole point. However some card issuers will identify it as a cash withdrawal anyway and charge you accordingly. Can’t comment on HSBC, so try a smaller amount first to test the water if required.

My Avios Barclayscard is very friendly with UK ATM withdrawals.. no idea about hsbc

And the Virgin Atlantic Mastercard will charge 5% cash advance fee

I also have this. If I click on “Try Pro For Free” in the App, or in the emails, it takes me to “Pick Your Plan” – Pro+ £17.99, Pro £9.99, X 5.99 – with no mention of a free month. I don’t trust Curve enough to click on ‘Pro’ in the hope/belief that I will then get the first month for free.
Should I be more trusting??I also have this. Should I be more trusting??When I got the offer it showed 9.99 with a strikethrough and £0 as the price – so if no other responses, I wouldn’t do it unless you are prepared to pay

The overall limit for ATMs is £3000 per CALENDAR on my curve metal. To confuse matters, the app says the limit is £1000 in the UK PLUS £1000 at ATMs overseas. It took numerous emails before I understood the maths but….
UK limit £1000 after which they charge you
Overseas limit £1000 after which they charge you
Total limit £3000 – means the card doesn’t allow you to go over £3000 in total with or without chargesHope this helps
Used free upgrade extensively in USA for everything including hotels which did have have a higher initial authorisation, but ultimately worked out fine and I earned lots of points plus some curve cashback.
Downgraded to the free card on return and this went smoothly, so I won’t hesitate to use the upgrade again in the future.
Regarding customer service which has been abysmal, I had reason to query an exchange rate and had a response within a day. Hopefully a sign of things improving.
