Rather odd experience, bare with me. After 5 requests through the chat, my account was finally closed at 15:30. I got an email telling me it was closed and the remaining amount for the billing period had been refunded.
After this time today, I then got many pending sums in the underlying barclaycard, initially 0.99p, then £1.99, then £49.99 (8 of these). In the barclaycard app they showed up with a + sign by the number, the overall credit limit was reduced by about £400. All had the crv prefix. I assumed there was fraud going on so phoned Barclaycard and they froze the account.
Any idea what could have happened here. The curve account is now closed, so no way to get in touch with them.
CRV* prefix and then what was in the transaction names?
As a health check whilst you get to the bottom of it:
– think if you have any other accounts linked in curve and whether you need to take action on those
– think if you were sent any 2FA codes and what you did with these
– check if you can see anything in the curve app (unsure what this looks like if closed though)
Hi, they were all crv* apple. Some said crv* apple cork. Thanks for the helpful advice.
Did you not remove the underlying cards from curve before trying to close it?
Someone on the inside at Curve trying to have a last hurrah with your card before it becomes inactive?
But yes, I would have assumed you’d remove the underlying cards as soon as you decided to close it. Also, as in another thread, I always keep my Curve card locked when I’m not actually making a transaction.

Sounds like app purchases or even in-app purchases.

Card locking can prevent a subset of transactions – such as leaked card details being used for POS type transactions that do not trigger in app 2FA.
However card locking doesn’t protect against the latest wave of curve fraud, which has been trying to gain access to your curve account (by sending you a 2FA to reset the passcode). Once in, the scammer has access to unlock/lock/swap cards/approve in app 2FA/etc.
In hindsight yes I should have just removed the only linked card I had. I agree I can’t help but think that someone inside Curve is doing something they shouldn’t. Mainly because the timelines are just so tight. Email from Curve was at 15.23 transactions started at around 15.20.
Fortunately Barclaycard have been helpful and responsive. Thanks for the comments.
