Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

    Hi All

I currently put the majority of my spend through Credit Cards (Currently hold Amex Plat & Barclaycard Avios Plus)

However I have around £100 a month spend (Phone bill & Health Insurance) that are direct debits, and only payable via debit cards, hence not earning rewards points or cashback

Will this work through Curve Lite (with the Barclaycard Credit Card ) behind it, I couldn’t seem to get a answer reading through the various pages

And if not is there any other ways to earn points or even cashback from direct debits

Well, when my Curve card did work 🙄 I put a few monthly payments through it without incurring any charges.

As long as your Curve card is functioning, then this shouldn’t be an issue 🙂

Thanks , probably worth £6 delivery fee just to give it a go then

Even if it doesn’t would happily make use of the £250 FX Spending as would provide a small benefit over using First Direct or spending with Barclaycard Credit Card with the 2.99% fee

Santander current account has cashback on certain household direct debits

Natwest current account gives £2 cashback / month on 2 direct debits for at least £2

Halifax current account has an option for £5 back on £500 debit card spend / month – can use it to pay off credit cards “legally”/”ethically”

To be clear, Curve cannot be used to pay direct debits but can be used to pay balances off manually.

For at most 150 points a month I’d question if it is worth it with the risk of missing a payment, and curve becoming less and less reliable.

Thanks , yeah looking all the various pages on problems with curve, leading towards a cashback current account that will pay it on a direct debit as I know not all do

And a separate FX free card

I downgraded from metal to the free, basic card. Can I take out cash from a UK ATM backed by a credit card? I know I can’t pay Amex anymore.

Perhaps you should have read the details of what you sere switching to? You can still pay Amex, but Curve will charge you for the privilege. You can still make ATM withdrawals, but Curve will charge you for the privilege and the underlying credit card provider may or may not as well. Curve fees are clearly displayed in the app under your account details.
