Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Curve changes from November 10th

I’m done! After being a paid subscriber (and investor) for many years, I’ve cancelled my subscription and moved to the free tier. The metal tier with just £3k/month fronted, no insurance (the hire car cover was a stand out feature) and other new limitations is not worth it for me anymore. A real pity. Will keep an eye on them in case they improve things. Was good while it lasted.

I have made many chip and pin transactions in last few days but my issue still persists.

I had the same issue. Curve support helped (for a change). For me it was down to the underlying card (Barclays) needing to do a chip and pin transaction on it. Went to the local supermarket, bought a can of coke, paid with chip and pin, and then some nuts with contactless, then my Curve worked again. Give this a go too.

Have done same (multiple chip and pin and contactless transactions however no joy with fronted payment.

Just to add: I was able to make a fairly large non-fronted but still contactless/online transaction earlier, using the same underlying card. So the issue is presumably either with fronted or with the merchant (NS&I), and nothing to do with contactless or chip and pin, or the amount being spent.

Yep it’s nonsense from curve. They advertise to pay off HMRC or NS&I but when it doesn’t work they don’t fix it quickly. Unreal theres a paid add from them today on HFP haha

My Curve gives that error for all online transactions – don’t have Metal anymore, so the issue isn’t only for Fronted.

It seems it is wider issue affecting all 3D Secure payments.

This is extract from an email when I sent a complaint to CEO

“ we are aware of customers experiencing difficulties making financial services payments to merchants such as HMRC through their online payment portal.”

    Monthly reset for me today

Anyone have experience with HMRC / NS&I / 9999 Transactions and Barclaycard? In the last couple months?

Dunno about NS&I, but I regularly use Bcard for HMRC, no problems – as recently as this week

In general Bcard is the most widely accepted of the funding sources – it’s also one of the few that I’ve never had any problems doing cash withdrawal (albeit the only thing I use cash for is to pay my cleaner, so not a lot)

Thanks If I could like I would rather than a new post but yep worked fine.

They use HMRC and NS&I as examples of fronted usage so I wouldn’t expect any issues

It’s not curve that the issue … it’s the underlying card

My cards all work fine everywhere. The issue is Curve.
Kind of absurd to think that suddenly 3 of my cards went rogue and Curve is the one that is fine.

This chip and pin txn was done on underlying Barclaycard or CURVE?

Did they also say anything about what they’re doing about it? 😉

Well they are looking into it but as a goodwill gesture I am offered 500 reward points (£5) for this trouble.
The fact that the payment is becoming due soon on my Amex and later for HMRC, while 30 days rolling limit is also imposed and then they have such 3D secure shenanigans!

It’s definitely Curve, this has happened at least once before me. Hopefully they are on it as my card is not working for any online transactions that require 3DS currently.

Mine is not working even with an underlying NatWest debit card or MBNA and virgin credit card.
So as far as I can see it is card wise issue for me,i.e. Curve Metal.

Very unclear from the post today – but does anyone still use Curve to pay off Amex bills with an underlying card which works? Virgin has stopped working for this purpose and treats it like a cash advance, but I’ve heard Barclays Avios credit cards still work for this.. thanks!

Curve even advertise this as a perk of fronted but not sure that it actually works for many underlying cards anymore..

The issues seem to be now fixed, I just got my 3DS pop up as normal and my payment on HMRC has gone through.

Can confirm, also worked for me. Thanks a lot.

    Yes. Resolved for me too.
Just Amex say payment not gone through while curve says it has.
Had similar experience before, hopefully it will show up in Amex account in few days time.

Interesting. One brother’s card works, but my other brother’s did not and same issue though the 3DS came.

+1, resolved here too. Nice of Curve to let us know. Oh wait… 😂

With CurveAI in future, the APP itself will tell you when your 30 days are up and how much fronted allowance is left on your account!

This just happened to me and thought I share to warn others. These are my fronted payments, assume my cycle started on 20 Dec. For context, I did a spent on 9th Jan and didn’t realise it would be fronted so got charged 13p instead. It was my mistake so no problem with that.

I have a spreadsheet that counts 31 (one extra just in case) days after my payment. Given I paid for my mistake, I assume I can start again with £400 today (31 days after 20 Dec). I just made the payment and got charged a 13p fee. That is the same fee as my errand £5 payment. So my running allowance appears to include the £5 which I was charged for!! I left them a message complaining.

I think I understood the allowance correctly, and this is their bad coding. I have not seen any comments of a similar nature (someone in the article yesterday mentioned getting lots of FX fees but he was going way above the monthly limits it is difficult to think it is the same issue). But wanted to check and I guess warn people too.

Beware declined transactions on fronted. Had a transaction declined, so sent it through again, which worked. Except the declined transaction + the transaction that worked breached the fronted limit so fees were added to the second transaction, even tho the first transaction had shows as declined as soon as it had been attempted. I would contact their CS but probably wouldnt get a reply til march.

where do the fees for exceeding your fronting limit get charged and when – paid £10000 to HMRC in January – didnt see the reduction to £3000 before fee
