    I have a 2 night booking at the IHG Park Lane for this weekend using a credit card free night. Unfortunately my father in-law is seriously ill and probably won’t make it through the weekend. I booked the room in Dec 2021 as it was my last opportunity to use before they expired.

    Can anyone offer any advice? Will the hotel move the dates if I call or will I just lose the 2 nights? Has anyone had any luck moving potentially expired free nights? Could I claim on my insurance?

    I offered the nights to friends but everyone has plans due to the bank holiday weekend.

    Hotels have very little control over points bookings. You can call them and ask nicely … but don’t expect anything.

    I called the reservations at the hotel and they couldn’t move it on the system – it just said no nights available.

    I’m sorry to hear about your father-in-law. I think with free night bookings the only option is to throw yourself on the mercy of IHG, though it can be very difficult to get them to understand what you’re asking sometimes. But if you can get a sympathetic and experienced CSA, I think they can move the booking, though obviously it would be a goodwill gesture. As far as insurance goes, I think they would say that as you haven’t suffered a financial loss, you wouldn’t be covered.
