Couple of questions re credit card reward voucher

Hi

Does anyone know the answers to these?

Can I book an outbound flight using the voucher before the return is available and then add the return to the booking later (as you can with BA)?

Also if I do will I get the fees as 2 singles or as a return, fees to US are much higher as 2 singles

Hi Gary, yes you can use your voucher to book the outbound before the inbound is available. They will charge you fees for a single at this point. Tell the operator that you are using half your voucher and you will use the other half once the inbound is available. I did this and once the inbound was available they added it and recalculated the fees so that I paid the fees for a return plus a £35 amendment fee. I was happy with this result and didn’t question the amendment fee but reading this forum I’ve seen that BA don’t charge this fee if you’re unable to do it yourself online. I’m not sure whether VA also waives the amendment fee if you explain that the outbound wasn’t available when you booked the inbound? They didn’t for me but I never thought to ask the question.

I never ended up doing it as my booking failed but I intended to and the operator said they would waive the fee as I advised them on the first call that the intention was to add the return.

Can’t verify if this is actually the case though.

VS waive the fee. If you’ve been charged it, @MC, give them a call and ask them to check it out – Swansea’s probably best.
