    Good morning all

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendations for hotels in Copenhagen. It’s been a number of years since we last went and I am just looking for a place for 3 nights in early December whilst visiting the Xmas markets and Tivoli.

I enjoyed The Strand last year.

Wasn’t that fussed on the Marriott a few years ago on a 7 night stay. If you get views of the canal it’s nice, but had an issue, brought it to the attention of the appropriate manager who resolved it… for one day, then it went back to being a problem again.

The lounge was mediocre. The food in the main restaurant was okay, not amazing. The bar food was brought out incorrectly, then when my order did come and was correct it has a stone in it! They did comp us that meal.

The location was okay for Tivoli gardens and the train station, but it feels out of the way/not central.

I stayed at Villa Copenhagen last year and liked it a lot – would definitely recommend.

Can’t comment on the hotels and their quality but I lived there until recently so this is more about the area around Tivoli. I’d avoid the cheaper hotels on the west side of Central station, from Tietensgade up to Vesterbrogade, they’re close to Tivoli but that couple of blocks are grungy and not particularly pleasant to spend time in.

I would also recommend Villa Copenhagen. Nice rooms and comfortable beds. The hotel is right next to the main station and across from Tivoli.

Would suggest to stay away from Scandic Hotels as their nickel and dime. Wouldn’t offer any sort of early or late check in without a surcharge, even if only an hour or two. Also their pillows are low quality.

The Tivoli hotel is also ok, but again their pillows are not good.

The Radisson Collection hotel across from Tivoli is also really nice.

But what are you looking for in a hotel? What is your budget and what are you used to?

I would recommend the Kong Arthur. Details of this and other recent recommendations here:

Thank you everyone. We stay in all types of hotels from luxurious like the one and only and raffles in Singapore but also much cheaper lower quality ones, especially for shorter stays where just sleeping. ideally would need space for our daughter and a bar for me after she goes to bed. We are looking to go for the Christmas markets and Tivoli as we did all the tourist stuff before.

I will check out the suggestions.

There’s supposed to be a new Hilton but not sure if it will open by Christmas (originally scheduled for 2020) and probably not a good idea to be an early guest in a new hotel anyway

I’ve stayed at The Square a couple of times but it’s been a long while since the last visit (2016) so can’t comment on its current situation so more of a suggestion to look at rather than a recommendation.

I highly recommend the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel. Sleek, comfortable and a great location practically opposite Tivoli. Both the building and all the original furniture were designed by renowned Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. It was the world’s first “design hotel” when it opened in 1960 and they’ve still kept one of the original rooms completely intact and untouched as a memento! It has kept the art-meets-function feel. Even if you don’t stay there it’s worth popping into the lobby to sit on the egg chairs and admire the architecture.

We stayed in the Absalon, which probably fits into what @ratiom described as the “grungy” area to the west of the station. We found it a good base, walked into a lively area on a Friday night for some food and also found it a good base being near the station and metro.

    Reasonable breakfast buffet, comfy rooms

For Tivoli, you can’t beat the Nimb – entrance straight into Tivoli (and entrance included as part of the hotel rate) – but it is pricey. A wonderful stay and certainly fantastic service as well as location.

If you are looking for a hotel with a bar, the Villa Copenhagen has one in the lobby, and it seemed lively enough and nice when we stayed there.

Skt. Petri hotel is also ok. They also have a bar but isn’t as nice as the Villa. However, they are in a street with several bars within a 100 meters or so of the hotel.

The hotel that was supposed to open as a Hilton ended op opening as an NH Collection hotel instead… Had been looking forward to a Hilton 🙁
