Forums Other Destination advice Competitiveness of business Kenya rewards flights at Christmas?

  • 74 posts

We are looking to do a big trip Christmas/New Year 2025 and Kenya is top of the list right now with Costa Rica a close second.

How competitive are 2 business seats (with a BAPP 241 voucher) likely to be flying out 17th or 18th December to Nairobi and back from the same (or Mauritius via open jaw) on the 2nd or 3rd of Jan?

Is this one of those routes that we need to be doing the call at mid night routine (which I’ve never done so need to read up on) or is it a bit less bonkers?

Not looking for hard and fast guidance, just if anyone has any experience or knowledge would be handy 😀

    Cheers

Costa Rica isn’t quiet in Singapore levels of competitiveness, but I’d book overnight when tickets are released.

Ah ok, thanks – I had figured that with the Iberia option it would be a bit easier. I was considering it a safe back up to Kenya

We booked 355 days ahead for J seats with a 2-4-1 to NBO from LHR, 15 months ago, but seats were still available a few months after, this is a popular route all year round for business travelers and safari followers alike, so if you decide on this route don’t take too long.

Funnily enough, these are the same two routes we’re looking at for a family trip either next Xmas or Easter 26. Though in the case of Kenya, we’re actually planning our ultimate destination to be Malawi, so we’d need a connection with Kenya Airways. Does anyone happen to know if this is covered by the codeshare BA have with them?

In the press release when it was announced (https://www.headforpoints.com/2021/10/23/kenya-airways-british-airways-codeshare/) it mentioned 20 routes, but only 8 were specified and I can’t seem to find the info anywhere else.

Assuming it is included could this still be booked as a protected connection if using a 241 for the NBO leg only?

Unfortunately, if you are using a voucher, whether it’s a codeshare or not, you can’t put the onward flights on the same PNR so you won’t have protected connection.

Thanks for confirming @JDB. Will look to book in an overnight between in that case or a long connection
