Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Claiming miles on British Airways rerouting

Back in Oct I was scheduled to fly from Lyon to London with British Airways, but due to a flight cancellation, I was rerouted with Lufthansa via Frankfurt. Unfortunately the BA agent completely mucked up the rerouting , causing me to spend the night at an airport hotel in Frankfurt and fly back to London with BA the following morning.

I have already credited the Frankfurt to London leg to my Aer Club. However, I have a question regarding the Lyon to Frankfurt segment on Lufthansa. Since I do not have loyalty to Lufthansa or any other Star Alliance member, is it worthwhile to claim these miles from LH and perhaps transfer these miles to a hotel loyalty program?

You can definitely get credit for flights on other airlines. I had a cancellation on BA in October and was able to a get a reroute on TAP from LHR via LIS to FAO. I just entered my TAP FF number on the booking and got the credit.

But I did it at the time, not sure if you can do a retro claim if not already signed up to a Star Alliance scheme. I’d avoid Lufthansa’s scheme itself as it has a hard expiry and you won’t get a huge number of miles.

Lyon to Frankfurt leg can be credited to Miles & more or any other alliance airline you wish but probably worthless credited out to anything else.

I’m planning to close my LH miles&more account after almost a decade and focus on TAP miles&go. They’re flexible with miles expiry and I’m aiming for Gold status with them.

Bump this thread – the ticket number issued by LH began with 125 so i was able to have tier points and avios credited to BAEC.

Had a similar experience last week-end. BA cancelled my return from CPH and got rerouted back via BRU with SN
