Hi, I’m about to book various domestic flights around Chile from SCL. They would be to Calama for the Atacama and Puerto Natales for the Torres del Paine NP. I recall recently reading a note from a regular contributor, possibly @meta or maybe @memesweeper?, that they had booked via the local Chilean website and not from UK.
Clearly, it makes a difference in price – variable from what I have seen, but I wonder what the downsides could be if I did so? Is anyone likely to cancel them or raise some other query? Probably not but I’d be interested to hear of anyone els’e experience please. TIA.
Hi. We went in 2019 and booked our flights to Calama and Easter Island on the local website. No problems at all. Apparently it is cheaper because they offer the lowest fare bucket on the local site but not on their international sites. We paid about the same for business class to Rapa Nui on the local site as we would have done for economy on the UK site. I believe as members of the OECD they cannot stop you using the local site. Go for it and enjoy Chile.
Hi @heb999
Thank you for your experience. Combination of rejected local purchase re some issue on local site with international credit cards, Amex! and my infinitely better half ‘encouraged’ me to play safe and flights now all booked. Yes, you do pay a premium!🙈
Nevertheless, hugely looking forward to the trip-albeit 1yr year late for good lady’s birthday.
