Hi all. Asking for experience of checking luggage on a journey booked on separate tickets. I know this varies by airlines so here’s my situation:
I’m headed to Beijing in May and transferring in Doha. Tickets are BA LHR-DOH return and Xiamen Air DOH-PKX booked via Qatar.
I understand this might be easier if I was travelling on Qatar Airways as it’s a closer partner with BA. Xiamen is a Qatar partner but a member of SkyTeam. The flight is a QF codeshare.
Would I be able check my luggage all the way to Beijing and vice versa?
Your problem here is BA, whose official policy is to not check luggage through on separate tickets, even if both flights are on BA. You might get a very accommodating staff member, but departing the UK, the chances of this are vanishingly small.
You might have better luck on the inbound.
